Geforce Question!

I've seen GEFORCE4 MX460 's online for only like 100-130 dollars. It seems that would be a good choice as an upgrade card for morrowind. Any big reasons to go with the 350 dollar card over this other then an increase of speed? And at that, about how many times faster would a Geforce ti4600 hundred be than a Geforce4 mx440 ?? Thanks in advance.

The Geforce 4 MX is just boosted up GF2... It doesn't have pixel shaders to support the pretty water in Morrowind either... If you need a good yet inexpensive card Right now the cheapest bet is a Radeon 8500. Otherwise wait till the GF4 4200 comes out in Mid May. Both of those cards are/will be decently priced perform well and support pixel shaded water.

Woah Hold On!!!

A GeForce 4 MX is really an overclocked GeForce 2.

This Link will explain the powers of each of the aforementioned cards. The Ti 4600 is God when compared to the MX's

Anything we can do to spread the Anti-MX word.

Yes, the 8500 is the current best power/price item. The Ti 4200 may be it's only competition (when it comes out in a couple weeks). The beauty of the Ti's is that they support 4x A-A (which makes a picture a lot less choppy) with little or no loss in performance.

I would advise that you have at least a 1 ghz computer, as this card needs fast data in/data out.

Yeah, I got 700 dollar check, and im buying new parts for my comp. Im buying a p4 1.9ghz at 210 dollars ( I don't justify 90 more dollars for 100 mhz), new motherboard for 80, and maybe a new network card, and either the radeon or a TI geforce.

Thats a good question tough, currently using an ISA network 10/100 card, and a cable modem. Would I notice any increase in internet speed, or decrease in ping by upgrading from ISA to PCI card?

FSB

What you really need to look after, instead of just a fast cpu, is fast FSB (front side bus) I think it is in english. Better to have a cpu at 1400 mhz and a fsb of 400mhz, than 2000 mhz cpu on 266 mhz fsb. And LOTS of ram. At LEAST 512 mb, preferably twice that much. And make sure that the ram also is fast, 400 mhz is nice, however i´m not sure if its been releasaed yet.

Currently im using sdram, 512 mb. I took a look at new ram, and the newest/fastest out seems to be DDR333, That seem to be fast enough, or is faster coming out soon?

Aaahhh Man!!! This Post is only 22 days too late

I bought a GeForce 4 4200 MX thinking it was all right. and now look at this.
And it's true they relly should of called it GeForces 3 MX than GeForce 4.

Curse my luck.

Jabbr: I think the normal Geforce 3 performs somewhat better then the Ti 200 and does somewhat less then a Ti 500.
Your card will be good enough for MW. And you'll have the pretty water too

I think that it was not nice from NVidia to make such chaos from this. Some GForce4 are similar to GForce2, some to GForce 3, some are better. Some GForce3 are better than some GForce4 and some GForce 2 are nearly same as some GForce3 and as some GForce4...
