If they can't make a good portion of 1000 NPC's interesting, then they shouldn't make 1000. Make less. 95% are filler in MW and that is too high a percentage. _________________ "You two are a regular ol' Three Musketeers." |

Um, how about fewer repeated dialogue options. Does nearly every one of those more than 1,000 NPCs have to provide me with the same "Dunmer" dialogue choice, for example, with the same answer? Why can't each dialogue choice be limited to, say, 25 NPCs. Another alternative would have been to have each NPC address the repeated dialogue choices in slightly different ways to give each NPC a unique personality. Bethesda could have also limited background dialogue choices (about things like the history of the Dunmer and so on) to a few characters while also putting those answers in a section of the Journal dedicated to "history" or "background information."
Morrowind is actually my favorite game of last year, but I think there is still room for improvement. _________________ Apologize, v.i. To lay the foundation for a future offense.

I agree. I am about 20 days ingame play and I have most of the dialogue memorized, but as it's my first time playing, I am afraid not to go through most of them for fear I'll miss that one important statement. This could have been better thought out. As mentioned before, divide it up and only have part of them say different things. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Oh, but they are divided up already! There are so many NPCs you'll inevitably begin to notice repetitions eventually. Maybe they could have done more, which would have cost a lot more in money and development time and maybe stopped you noticing until day 40 or so? It's a trade-off they had to make, and it doesn't detract too much from the experience for me.
There are different dialogue combinations based on your race, your gender, their race, whether or not they are worldly wise, their profession, their disposition towards you etc., and then there are NPCs with special dialogue defined which may itself vary depending on the above qualities as well. _________________ Charlie Dobbie

Yeah, and there're also randomly selected dialogue options. If you want to know more, open the TES CS & see that each NPC has around 100 things to say if not more.

I stand corrected cfm. I just talked to someone after increasing the way they feel about me, and I was up a level or two as well, and got a whole new dialogue. This makes me realize it does have a rhyme and reason to it. Thanks for the info. I might not have tried to persuade them if you had not told me there was reason to. Thanks again. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Also there's a whole lot of plugins that increase dialog options. |

I disagree with your first statement , but the music is fantastic, isn't it? And it's all in MP3 format so you can play it outside the game as well. Nice!
A bit more of it would have been nice - things tend to get repetitive after a while. But you can add your own music to the game, so I just rip the LotR CD and add that to the mix. _________________ Charlie Dobbie

1-What is LotR?
2-I usually listen to the music when I'm doing my homework . It helps me concentrate. Especially the Morrowind title music. |

The devs of this new RPG, The Fall, are taking an interesting approach to get their announced 1k unique NPCs done: a few days ago they asked their German community to create single NPCs or small groups of interconnected NPCs, complete with (non-quest) dialog. A scheme, puzzle pieces for daily schedules and examples where provided, to assure standardisation and simple refinement by the devs.
Of course I´m not convinced this will lead to more than a few HQ NPCs, but at least they get masses of fresh ideas into the development process. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

That is good! I like to see community participation like that, and the benefits to the developers are enormous. Well done them. _________________ Charlie Dobbie
