I somehow got into posting a summary of the RA reviews so far at GG. Maybe somebody here is also interested in them.

--------------------------------------------------

The 3 "serious" German print mags already tested RA.

When looking at the scores you have to know that RA has no lobby while Sacred, as direct competition, is king of the hill with 85-89% and has Ascaron and Take 2 behind it.

PC Games
(conclusion is enthusiastic but unfortunately untranslatable)
Grafik 80%
Sound 84%
Controls 91%
Final / Fun: 82%

Complete pro & contra:
+ efficient, easy to learn interface
+ diversified missions
+ atmospheric ambience despite 2D engine
+ superb localization

- stuttering (?) character animations

PC Action
"Very good [-> German school rating; an 'A']... a must buy for fans of the genre!"
Grafik 80%
Sound 87%
Controls 77%
Final / Fun: 82%

GameStar (tougher rating system!)
Grafik: 5/10 ! (Diablo2: 6/10)
Sound: 9/10
Balance: 9/10
Atmospäre: 8/10
Interface: 8/10
Length: 8/10
Quests: 7/10
Charakters: 7/10
Combat System: 6/10
Items: 8/10

Calculated result: 75%

(The review was full of simple factual mistakes, for example a wrong name of a main char and a complaints about friendly fire in MP. Problem: there is no friendly fire and there never was. )

I got a few comments from my experience with the demo.

- It's a diablo 2 gameplay clone right into the bone core
- Medieval fantasy is replaced by sci-fi (fantasy).
- Graphics is about on the same level as Diablo 2 eventhough I presume it's much younger.

Now by naming it's similarity to diablo 2 gameplay I've actually said it all about this game, but in my book it got some small deviations that is not all for the better:

- Animation of character and enemies, feels much more "blocky".
- Inventory is way too small, you need to find a merchant quite often, if you want to earn a little money on the items you find.
- Don't leave an area if you don't must, because the hole area will respawn (Really annoying), and your auto-map will be reset to "dark" (Unknown area).
- Quest are like "kill that", "get that" in the demo.
- You can hire a side-kick, that will take a share of your earnings.
- When you level up, you can put XP-points into different specialisations like "Shotguns", "Flamethrowers" etc. a little like "Deux Ex". Besides that you got the standard attributes like "strength" , "Dexterity" etc. which needs a certain level before you can use certain weapons and armour (Sounds familiar).
- In the Demo I didn't find anything about teleportation back to town, so I had to walk the annoying path back down the endless empty corridors. Get on the hired transporter and ride back to town, sell my goods, ride back to the dungeon, and find all the enemies respawned (Nice!). If you have reached further levels in a dungeon, you can decide if you want to start from those levels when you re-enter a dungeon.

Conclussion: If you really are thirsty after another Diablo 2 clone Restricted Area might do the trick, but if you still haven't played "Sacred", "Harbinger" or "Novasphere 13", I would recommend them instead
