I've read through most of the posts and haven't found anything similar. I can play the game for 5 to 20 minutes and it deadlocks, nothing, no ctl+Alt+del or alt+tab. I also have nothing in the background, explorer and systray only. This is what I've done:

Fresh win98se install about a week ago

Updated all drives, video, sound, DirectX,motherboard

Tried every conceviable setting i.e. sound provider, resolution, reverb, etc

changing the cache on Cd-rom

Nothing seems to work, and my system is no slouch, Tbird 800, SBLive, GF2 GTS 32MB, UDMA 66, 320mb RAM. I'm very frustrated. If anyone has any suggestion, they'd be much appreciated, thank you in advance.

(update) I'be also tried re-install the game and Un-installing and re-installing as well......still nothing

Are there any programs running in the background? Like o/c tools, office indexing and stuff?
Have you tried to disable sound?

No, Nothing in the background, just systray and explorer. I haven't tried playing with no sound, but I have tried disabling my SB-live and then finally removing it from my computer and enabling the onboard audio. I've also tried using some old Nvidia drivers and the lock ups seem less frequent, only about every 30 to 40 minutes. Still Searching................

Ever checked the temperatures in the BIOS after a lockup?

No, but my crappy motherboard doesn't support temp monitoring. I haven't any overheat problems with any other games but I will give it a look see........
