Ok can somebody mention me the difference in D&D 1ed rules 2nd and 3rd??? and what Edition do BG1 has???

AD&D 2ed grew out of improvements and extensions to the first D&D ruleset released in the early '70s. AD&D 2ed was very popular but somewhat complex and sometimes contradictory.
3ed is a complete re-write of D&D to try and modernise, streamline and improve the rules. There's hundreds of differences but here are a few examples that demonstrate what they were trying to achieve-
- Many of the stats have been standardised/streamlined. For example, all positive/higher numbers are good, while negative/lower numbers are bad in 3ed while 2ed stats often improve as the number gets lower which was confusing.
- 3ed adds skills and feats. These allow you to customise your character a lot more which adds more depth and fun.
- More choice and equity among races and classes. For example, in 2ed Paladins could only be humans. There's a lot more flexibility in 3ed.
BG uses AD&D 2ed rules (as do all the Infinity Engine games until IWD2). The first 3ed game was POR:ROMD and the 2nd was NWN. |
