Do I need to train 2 handed weapon?

I've been concentrating on mostly Bow and 1 handed weapon. Will I have problems later in the game if I don't learn 2 handed? In other words, if I train strength up, will this allow me to use 1 handed weapon as effectively as 2 handed weapon? (I have level 2 (master) on bow and 1 handed weapon now.)

While this is easily answered, it can also depend on certain factors,

This as been asked i think more than any other question, its a matter of choice, i went all the way through the game once with a one hander, it seems quicker (and is) but you lose out slightly/obviously to a powerful 2 hander, especially later in the game when its seems the logical progression is at some time (when you know you getting powerful) to swap over.
At one time (using 1h ) although i had the power (almost) i was losing out with the speed, doing a quick ctrl+forward then off, then ctrl+forward then off repeatedly is the fastest speed for any melee weapon in the game, and even this is only if you are using the keyboard rather than the mouse.

The first time I played through the game, I used 1hd because of the simplicities of Scar's Sword. The second time, as a Templar, I wanted to fit in, thus I started using 2hd swords. There much slower, but stronger.

Most newer characters usually use 1hds because they are so much more readily available, and much quicker. But the 2hd swords have much longer reach, and keeping things back is no problem. By the time they get close to your guard, you simply either smack them back with a forward strike, or finish them off with a right-left combo.

If you want to get a 2h weapon once you are inside the castle, simply sleep to midnight and go to Stone's weaponshop. Im not sure which chest, but near the forge, there is a chest with a two-hander you can equip. And if you want a 1hd, just beat up Scar

you can go on with the one handed weapon but you will get sick while killing because the 2hw is much stronger than the 1hw.

I you're planning on finishing the game as a fighter you'll surely need 2 handed combat skills, because of a sword which is needed to finisch the game.

@ Edv, it doesn't matter,

The game "allows for "the sword" to be used by any/guild/melee-weapon/missle-weapon user because it is in the "critical storyline" - - "the sword" contains some game triggers, just having it in your inventory makes a difference, you could "kill" the sleeper with another sword for example, the triggers of "the sword" put up a "flag" on the sleeper (not to make you sleep) within it's bounding box.

I found using 1h weapons a total pain in the arse in the temple of the sleeper, mostly because of the templars, they would nearly kill mee before I could get near enough to hit them, if there was more than 1 then I was dead, I was on about level 35 aswell so it's not like I was to weak.

well one-handed is cool bout in the part where you need "the sword" it'll be pain unless you edit some weapons or turn it into a one-handed sword .. or ofcause desided to use it as a rune insted if your a damn powerfull mage

but all in all i'd say when you got 7 levels worth of Lerning points get your two-handed skill up to scratch

I am amazed at the number of players who say 1 handed weapons are not all that good, i found that with kaloms sword, (60-1h)+ high dex, killing anything was easy (and very fast) - - so fast that the opponents could not get a strike to me, now that is fast! - i couldn't ask for more

wulf .. there must be a flue going around cuz one-hanhed rules
most of the time i'd rather use a one handed then a twohanded that give 20 points more damage .. even gotten a bad habbit of make that mega sword thing ( can never remember the name ) into a one hander

1hw is good for killing animals or zombies, but 2hw is better for killing orcs.

noway one-handed weapons are just as effetive when it comes to killing orcs if not more .. the faster swing makes it nearly impossible for an orc to strike you if your timeing is right .. same goes for trolls .. when ever i try killing a troll whit a two-hander it busts me like a pinyada but whit a one-hander it possible to kill it even at level 0 .. if you got all day ofcause

@ Uocjat,

Yeah, that meen old flue's getting everywhere
Personally i would never say that either one handed or two handed is no good,
its got that way now that i never play with a two hander any more, how about that.

To a newbie starting with Gothic i would agree, but as you begin to "mess about a bit" (trying different ideas/tricks/etc') you get another viewpoint about what a real "gem" the game of Gothic is, reading many hints of other forum members you find there is "more than one way to skin a cat" if you get my meaning.

well,i can tell you Uocjat that the 2hw is great for killing trolls, and if you want to kill orcs with 1hw you will be hit that for sure,if you were attacked by many of them.
