I live in Kazakhstan (a post-soviet republic), in a ~300,000 pop town called Pavlodar.
Well, what can I say? I'm bored of this town, but I don't hate it or something. I just want to go somewhere new.
Although I have my parents and friends here, so that makes it all worthwhile...
I really don't know what to say more about my town/country... if someone is curius, just ask. |

Hmm... I think I'll add Hungary, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic to my list of places I'd like to visit in my lifetime. Bermuda and Australia were already on my list. Thanks for the responses so far.

I used to live in Ottawa ON, but due to foreseen circumstances I moved to much better looking city, and that is Vancouver BC. And to answer Val questions; close to ocean? - check, close to mountains? – check, close to volcano? – couple of driving hours and then check, close to forest? – check, close to open plains? who needs open plains .
I don’t see many Canadians here, except Xen and Ekim, but if anybody was wondering to visit or not, if you like nature and great scenery you can’t afford to skip this town, just imagine mountains and ocean in one place can’t beat that.

I live in Halle (Saale), [East] Germany.
I kinda like the city. It's my birthplace, and now I study here. So it's the place where two of my most important events happened / are happening. It's the birthplace of Georg Friedrich Händel, and one of the cities which weren't heavily bombed during WWII, so many old (and rotten) houses still exist here. Sadly enough, in the era of the DDR old buildings weren't renovated but knocked down and replaced by ugly ugly "Plattenbauten".
Halle is a city with many students, but has also one of the highest rate of unemployment in the whole country (20%). So people are what you expect in this case.
As for Germany... it's a little bit strange, but one gets used to it, if she/he lives here for a lifetime. We celebrate mostly catholic holdays, but that differs from federal state to federal state.

Great stuff guys!
I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. There are three Universities located here... yet it is very rural. An unbelievable and beautiful mix of people and culture. There is a saying here: "Half the people have written a book, and the other half have never read one." It has a strong ring of truth. And I have people I adore on both sides of the above quotation.
I could not have been born in a more perfect place!
Such a strong mix of intelligence and old mountain wisdom. I can't believe I got born in such a place! 
And the Appalachain Trail runs right thru here. So far, I have hiked about 1/3 of it - solo. The AT is a little over 2k miles. Georgia to Maine.

I live in preston, There are 3 places of intrest, My house, the happiest house ever ahe 12 bar, a live music pub and the ware house, a metal club thats quite cheap to get wasted in. Other than that I would say it was dead average.

I live in Massachusetts in a middle-class suburb south of Boston. I love living in the Boston area. My suburb is far enough from Boston that I don't have to worry about crime or parking, yet close enough that I can reach Boston in 15 minutes by car (traffic permitting). It's not a very interesting place to live, but it's quiet and rather anonymous (which I like).
Boston is a great city. It's not huge, but it has many excellent restaurants, museums and other attractions. Cambridge is next to Boston with Harvard University (you can attend the open-enrollment Harvard University Extension School at night and take classes with Harvard's professors), Harvard Square (very Bohemian/punk/commercial) and a lot of fun things to do. I'm only about 4-1/2 hours from New York City (by car), 6-1/2 hours from Philadelphia and about 9 hours from Washington D.C. If I want to go hiking or skiing, I'm only two or three hours from many great locations in New Hampshire and Vermont.
Then there is the East Coast from Cape Cod to Boston to Maine with great seafood and beaches (but be warned--the water is COLD here).
I'm enjoying the descriptions of places I haven't been. I hope to visit many of them in the future.

I live in Nyköping, a town with about 40k inhabitants, 100 km south-west of Stockholm. I like it here, although I think I'll move to a greater town when I grow up. We have about everything I need here, except for a University. Crime is at a normal level, but nothing I've ever encountered myself. The city lies nest to the Baltic Sea, and we have lots of pretty plain ground, but no mountains. Additionally, with the right weather, it can be very beautiful here in all seasons except fall.

A very interesting thread!
I am living in Bremen, North-Germany (came here with 18 for studying, liked it and stayed). Bremen is more than 1000 years old, has 500000 inhabitants, is a very green city, I am lucky to live in a street, which is also full of trees. Bremen is also called „the village with tram“.
It is said, that the people in Bremen have 1.) a very reserved character, and 2.) do not make many words. Well, that reserved character I have, the 2nd I am trying (not always with success).  |

My home? I live in what Utahns refer to as "Happy Valley", otherwise known as Utah Valley. The population is about 98% Mormon. Which makes for some interesting moments. I live just up the road from BYU. Most people living here are BYU fans, but I'm a Ute fan myself. That game last Saturday was great! My sisters and I are still rubbing it in our brothers' faces. 
Utah is in the western United States. Overall, a nice place to live if you prefer low crime rates, religious fanatics and people who are sick of religious fanatics, conservative viewpoints, neighbors who bake you cookies, national parks, long streches of lonely highway, dry heat (it is a desert state after all), aspen trees, lots of mountains, red rock canyons, people who drive at least 10 mph over the speed limit (and if they aren't, then they didn't learn to drive here), lime green jello with carrots (yuck), ice cream, no smoking signs, 50 cent Tuesday at the movies, low living costs, the ability to drink water out of the tap and not have to fish out floaties, pretty sunsets, nice skiing, rock climbing, biking, hiking, camping, and lots of other outdoor activites.
I think the key to enjoying living in Utah is enjoying the outdoors. I only have to drive a few miles and I'll be well on my way up into the mountains that surround the valley. I love mountains and I can't imagine living anywhere that isn't near some snow-capped peaks.
I'm only hours away from places like the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and Yellowstone National Park. I'm only about 5 hours from Las Vegas.

Kingston, Ontario- city with ~100,000 inhabitants
- former capital of Canada, has a rich history and tradition
- the dark side: prison headquarters and a few military bases. Really don't know what these people may do to me.
- nearby tourist attraction: Thousand Islands. I haven't been there, so can't say much about it.

- Holidays. Need to say more? Previous holiday is Thanksgiving (Oct 11), next holiday is Christmas (Dec 25). Yeah, nothing special.
- People. College town, so the streets here are dirty and noisy.
- Fridays are rituals of intoxication.
- Crime is not high, but you really don't want to trust your neighbours, especially when they are drunk.
- Landscape. Standard boring southern Ontario landscape. No sea, no river, no mountain, no real forest (unless you travel a bit north). All we get is Lake Ontario, which is polluted anyway.
- Forklore. Squirrels are possessed by spirits of the demon. Our garbage bags are usually torn apart by these bastards; and somehow these creatures manage to sneak into my house and steal my dinner. Also, sometimes in the morning, you can see people getting frightened and chased by these monsters. I swear, some day, this town will be invaded by these evil spirits.
- Access to other places. 3 hours away from Toronto, 4 hours away from Montreal and 2 hours from Ottawa.

I did not come far: in Bremerhaven (also called "fishtown"), it is ca. 70 km north of Bremen, close to the North Sea . |

Ive recently relocated to arcata ca.
15k people. High petty crime rate for its size.
Humboldt state university is here. Lots of hippies and young people. Extremely left wing and liberal area. 7 miles south of eureka ca. Basically a long way from any large city.
The nearest city of any size is either medford oregon, or santa rosa ca both more than 200 miles away. |
