Soul Gems

Anyone find a good area to find these, or where some might be?
Do they turn up on certain Monsters or random treasure?

Thanks

I have found at least ten of these things in the dungeons around Balmora. There are three types I have found, not having read much of the manual and not having a magic user charactor, what are these good for? I recall from Daggerfal it has to do with trapping souls or something.

Making Magical items!!!

They rock. I ended up buying my first one. I am a hand made jack of all trades in light armor and a sword and was getting WAILED on! I started collecting gems and making armor and Voila!! I am in good shape now.

Could you give a recipe that actually works and how to go about it please. Being of the hack and slash mentality, my standard thinking and approach is useless for actually thinking around these soul Gems. I now have like twenty of them and will soon most likely dump them off in my cave or sell them due to not understanding their nature fully.

Yeah i was curious about the soul gems also, like i casted a soul trapping spell, i then killed the creature, and well nothing happened, what did i do wrong? i tried putting a soul gem in my hand and it said something like "this gem must have a soul in order to be put there" or something like that.

thanks

I do not know the recipe. I am pretty stinky at enchantment. I went to the Mages guild in Balmora. Up the stairs is a woman who enchants the item for you. You have the item, the soulgem and the spell and then tell it how powerfull you want it.

anyone help

The manual doesn't really tell you HOW to use a soul trap. It says you need a scroll...... but how do you use the scroll on the baddie?

After you successfully cast a Soul Trap on a critter (with either a spell, scroll, or enchanted item), you have so many seconds to kill it for the soul transfer to take place (dependent upon the spell, it's usually 20+ seconds). If you don't kill it within that timeframe, the transfer doesn't take place.

a little cheesy...but

As part of one of the guild quest you have to place a fake soul gem in someones desk. You can also take this time to loot all of the fully charged gems with no repercussions. These range from petty all the way to the most powerful (cant recall the name) but its got a value of 60,000.

Enchantment is unfortunately permanent. Can't undo it.

Youll find a few soul gems in the shipwrecks on the ocean. Look for the small stone (wooden?) boxes.
