locked purple doors and the Eye of Power

I was doing so well ... I am standing in front of big purple doors
on dragon island ... way inside the castle (or whatever it is). I just
killed the Black Magician. I have the Eye of Power and the Black
Magicians scroll with the magic words ... but I can't equip the Eye of
Power (I took off all my rings and amulets), it does nothing and
I can't get the big purple door behind his body to open. Was
I supposed to talk to him before killing him (he started it ... he threw
fire at me .. haha!)? Thanks ...

Have you read the Black Magician's scroll?

You're not able to equip the eye of power, just make sure it's in your inventory and you've read the scroll from the mage. Now go to the door and press LMB (or whatever you use to pick up items), if everything it working you will now start praying and the door to the final boss, the Undead Dragon, will open.
