I can't get the game to work properly. The game locks up right in the beginning, when the guy says something to me and my character only says "I'm". Immediately after that the game locks up. I've got the newest video drivers and direct-x 8.0 installed. I've also tried both installation options and yet the problem won't go away.

here's my specs:
Pentium III 500 mhz
256 mb ram
Matrox millenium g400

What soundcard do you have? Did you install in the default dir?

Try to increase your swapfile size to 1 or 2 GB.

I've got a Sound Blaster 128PCI sound-card. I couldn't install it to the default directory, because I don't have enough disk space on drive C: . Also my harddrive is too small for a 1-2 gb swap-file.

You can create the swap file on another partition. Drive c: is not required.

I also recommend you mail techsupport. Your problem is not common and nobody here, including me, seems to have an idea what´s wrong.

I can't create the swap file on any drive, because my harddrive is TOO SMALL! The size of my harddrive is only 6,3 gb and it's divided into c: e: and f:

The potential problems I see are as follows:

Matrox Millenium G400 - may not cut it.

256 meg Ram - not really enough - might get by if everything else were optimal - but not really enough these days.

Hard Drive too small coupled with inadequate swap file - get a larger drive and leave it big for a big swap file. I am surprised that Windows runs efficiently at all. You start crunching Windows and programs into small spaces like that and you ask for problems of all kinds.

Soundblaster 128PCI - bad. Lousy card - bad for many games. My brother had that card and couldn't play many games properly - upgraded and all problems for him went away.

I would recommend first - new hard drive for more space. Then new sound card, then new video card, then new memory - in that order.

I tried turning all the sounds off, 'cause i figured that the problem lies in the speech. It didn't work; the game crashed on the same spot and showed me this error message:

Microsoft visual C++ Runtime error
Runtime Error!

Program f:gamesgothicsystemgothic.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's blah blah...

I can't change the video card, because my father uses the computer too. The main reason that we have the card is that it has dualhead option, and my father needs it in his working stuff...

On Piranha Bytes site should be a technical FAQ. I doubt the Matrox is incompatible.

Piranha site says:

G450 - no problems
G400 - no problems
G200 - some performance problems
G100 - big performance problems, some graphic bugs
