What's the deal here? Myles the Rogue (who by the way, is opening all the locks for me, just told me he's got some business to take care of and wants to leave my party. He's a pretty hardry fighter, plus lock-pickening abilities, make him a desireable character. I'm in the north eastern corner of the swamp, and I can't continue on the road, cause he wants to go. if Vi ever says that, she's history (completely worthless if you ask me)
If NPC's leave the party, do they come back? I'm running out of places in the swamp, can't go north to the caves, those crazy monsters kill me too fast, can't go east cause Myles wants to leave. Guess I'll go south

Certain NPCs refuse to enter certain areas. For instance Myles won't go to Bayjin, Mt. Gigas, Mine Tunnels, Marten's Bluff, and Ascension Peak. When they leave your party, they return to where you found them, except the robot (he stays where you leave him). A way around this though is the Set Portal ability. You enter the area they won't go, then you set a portal. Return through the portal and they are stuck with you. Of course they hate being in that area and will whine about it. They will also take a penality to their abilities while in the area.

Which is a big reason why I didn't use RPCs. You can cover most skills with the standard 6 characters. You get decent experience for fights (exp/6 instead of exp/ without losing capabilities. I grabbed Vi long enough for her Arnika escort, grabbed Myles long enough to do his jobs, and grabbed the Umpani and Trang prisoners just long enough to get them home.

you can also run them ragged until unconscious or go into battle mode and backfire a sleep spell I suppose.

Myles won't enter the Mine Tunnels, but you can get him back by returning to Arnika. You'll pick up a kick-butt RPC at the Mine Tunnels, but I hope one of your 6 permanent PC's has potential with locks/traps.

1) I also played withou RPC. You just invest in them, earn less exp. points because you have them in your party and they then, when you are entering hardest areas, will leave.

2) I had not character with lockpicking ability because Myles was dead and I had no items that provided me this ability because I accidently sold them . However I was still able to finish game. Several doors had "1% chance to force open". So I spent maybe 20 min. opening them, but there are just few of them.

Funny, Danicek..same thing is ahppening to me. I'm at ascension peak, and have NOBODY who can pick locks. As you know, there's 3 doors there that must be opened without keys, and some of them have the full number of tumblers (6 or 8??) . I used my 3 knock knock guys at full power, and almost always they leave at least one tumbler locked. That's when I have to use my fighters/valkyrie to force it. Like you said, usually just a 1% chance, so you do it over and over and over, finally someone will break through!

Just bring along the "Thieves buckler" or "Thieves hat" which almost every character can wear, and will give any character +10 in lock & trap skills no matter his profession. Let your magic users use "knock knock" spells or items with same name, and let the character with the "Thieves buckler" deal with the remaining 1 or 2 tumblers, that didn't stay up after casting "Knock knock".

Well, the "Thieves buckler" is not an unique item, and can be bought from "Antone" the rapax in Arnika. You can also find this item in several places. In the monestary, and in the vault at the seventh bough in Trynton are the few places I can remember right away!

BTW Danicek: I like the way you have summarized the "Hint hint" tread. Gives a better overview of the tips!

I hoped it will give better overview (there were several non tips posts in previous hint, hint, hint topic).
However it is very very long for post, standart www view could be better, but I think we have no such section here on RPGDot.

Well, Myles is history. I got tired of the swamp, and there wasn't any other place to go so I headed for Marten's Bluff. Myles, complained about not wanting to make the trip to Marten's Bluff, so I told him to get lost. After several fights in Marten's Bluff, I found that his help really wasn't all that much. So now I'm waiting for Vi to start bitching and she'll be history too.

The only RPC worth bothering with is RFS, the android monk dude.
He'll go "almost" everywhere, including the end game!
Plus he always gives good information when entering new areas and has a funny voice comment about some things .

Plus if you need to drop him, he'll stay put where ever its convenient for you to pick him back up.
I left him at Zant's place when I did the prison mission, that way I retrieved him the second I turned over the second prisoner.

Plus he kicks way more butt than any other RPC.

Other than him, I can't imagine using anyone else unless you dont have a bard/gadgeteer. Even then its questionable... Bards are handy for the heal all though .
