Upgraded PC, New Problems |
|
I have all the Ultimas and was able to play them all.
I upgraded motherboard, PC, sound card and video card.
Now I have lots of frustration...
Ultimas were installed from the Ultima Collection CD, Ascension CDs and floppy disks (Worlds of Ultima, Underworlds).
1. Ultima 2 hangs on the title screen, with or without "upgrade".
2. Ultima 5 upgrade (music) not working.
3. Savage Empire will not install VGA/MCGA ("Graphics conversion failed") though it did on my old system, and my brother's disks have the same problem.
4. Underworld 2 has no sound or music (may be due to memory management).
5. Serpent Isle hangs on the introduction movie, I have music but a black screen. It runs fine as long as I skip the movie...
Any help would be appreciated. |

I'm using Windows98SE and Ron Windeyer's utility for running BG, SI and Pagan in Windows. I was able to run all of them using the Ultima Launcher utility.
I was able to run all of them through Windows before the upgrade, now I'm looking for help on specific problems with some of them.
Savage Empire, in Windows or on a DOS boot, will not install VGA/MCGA graphics, and 16 color just doesn't cut it.
DOSBox won't fix these problems, and I'm not looking to play a conversion just yet.
I'd appreciate any help resolving the specific problems I mentioned above (including a good memory management setup or utility). |
