Attack rating questions... |
|
First, could someone please explain to me in the most painful detail possible what would be the difference between a weapon with Enchanted bonus +2 and a weapon with Attack bonus +5. What difference is there between those bonuses. What are pluses and minuses and which of the two would be better (assuming they are otherwise exact same weapon).
Secondly, when I look at my character sheet, it says that my attack bonus for my primary weapon is +12/+9/+6 and my off hand is +6. Or some such thing. Now this is a bipartite question. First, what does the +x/+(x-3)/+(x-6/... stat mean? What are all those additional numbers mean? Second, why does my off hand not have them? _________________ (@) |

First off, attack and enchantment bonuses usually aren't seperate in pen and paper... however...
Enchanted Bonus: An enchanted bonus is a magical bonus to a weapon. It adds its rating to hit the opponent as well as to damage. It also serves to overcome a monster defensive power called damage reduction.
In other words... a +2 longsword gives you +2 to hit more than a normal longsword, +2 to damage more than a normal longsword, and can harm creatures that normall need a +1 or +2 enchanted weapon to harm.
Attack Bonus is simply the first part of that equation. If you found a weapon with a +5 attack bonus, but it wasn't enchantment (a very weird and rare thing as enchanting a weapon is the only way to get such a bonus in pen and paper) you would get a +5 to hit, but not to damage. It also wouldn't overcome the damage reduction of some monsters.
For the second part:
That number is your total number to 'hit' with that weapon. Each slash indicated another attack in the round with that weapon. For example +12/+7/+2 would mean that in six seconds you make 3 attacks... one at +12, one at +7, and one at +2. Obviously the higher, the better. Your first attack might hit, but the 3rd one would be much less likely to.
An attack bonus under secondary weapon means you are using two weapons. It functions as another attack, so if you saw a +6 there it would mean you get FOUR attacks... three with the primary weapon and one with the secondary.
Two weapon fighting is rather complex and I'm actually off to a tabletop session... if you have further questions on two weapon fighting or need clarification... just ask. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi
