Gothic 2 plays fine, but crashes often

Gothic 2 seems to have some problems. Sometimes I can play the game for maybe 30 minutes without any problems. But suddently, the game crashes either with a "Gothic 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." or a Access Violation error.

My spec are:

Intel Pentium4 3.0 Ghz
Abit IC7 MAX3 motherboard
1 Gig of PC2700 Samsung RAM
Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum soundcard
Radeon 9700 PRO graphics card running on Catalyst 3.10
Windows XP Professional
DirectX 9.0b

All driver are up-to-date and the BIOS is the newest. My system temperature never reaches 30 C and the CPU never goes beyond 50 C when I'm playing games. It's rather annoying since the game rocks! But I don't want to save and start the game up every 5 minutes. Any suggestions?

Crashes are not normal. G2 should run rock stable. Did you read the FAQ and check if one of the programs G2 doesn´t like is running in the background?

-disable sound to check if this is the source of the problem
-use a virus scanner and kill spyware

Did u buy or download this game ? The only thing that happened on my comp was this: I had 256MB DDR RAM and it froze evry 30 mins or so. I put in another 256 MB DDR RAM and it never crashed afterwards. That's the only problem I know of.

Having the same problem. but only on one of my computers though.. (running without bugs on the other, but nothing with that machine is actually good enough to run the game.. so kinda laggy)

For me the only crashes when I'm in the town (and it started to crash when I'm swimming downstream in VoM.. wich is how far I'v come..) my biggest problem is in the Upper Quarter.. here it took me 10 crashes when I was moving on to chapter 2 (and then I talked as little as possible and just went straigth into the town hall and out again...)

VERY strange: a few weeks ago I've finished gothic 2 with a celeron 566mhz 256ram and a integrated graphic card 16 mb shared memory (that means that my real memory in game was 240mb).
Are you sure that you have the latest SP for windows?
"Gothic 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close" that's strange because access violation somethimes appen(like inserting lord hagen) but i've never read THIS error before.
Is this the only game that give you truble?

I've had G2 hard lock my PC a couple of times, I'm running the same vid card as you. Just the price of doing business. I think that G2 doesn't like my firewall and this is not the only game to have issues with Kerio. Save often.

Oh, and BTW- I have the d/l version and I use a nocd crack. Yesterday I bought the game since there are so few issues. Try before you buy. The crack has nothing to do with the program's stability. The image I d/l was a straight .iso.
