arx fatalis won't load

I have a fairly new pc game of Arx Fatalis. My game worked 2 days ago. Now it will play the intro and then the screen turns white with back borders or, if I try to load a saved game, the screen just turns black. I have to turn the pc off to get out of the program. What happened?

First, Welcome to the Boards. I am no pro by any means, but here are a few suggestions. One be sure you have installed the patch. Two, be sure the disc is clean. Three, be sure all other programs are off, including any virus protection software. Also if you have dsl, be sure your connection is off and your computer is not trying to download an update of somekind in the background that is causing the problem. Try starting a new game and see what happens. Did you install anything after the game was installed? Do you have all the latest drivers for your machine hardware? Do you have all windows updates? If none of this helps you can try uninstall and reinstall. Also I had a problem running the game from the desktop icon. Try starting the game from the start menue list for it. Disable autoplay for your cd drive so it is not trying to open twice. If you want you can wait and see of anyone else has some ideas for you. If you do uninstall, be sure to do a search for all JoWood files after you do it and delete them as well. They will stop you from reinstalling otherwise. Hope you get it fixed. If you do, let us know what you did so others can benefit. If you still need more help, post all your computer specs as well. We will try and help you get it going, so just hang in. There are a lot of smart people here.
