This will be the last Wizardry game from Sir Tech, they are out of business.

But the people that made this game must be proud, and I'd expect the people on the team to resurface with a new company, or at least a design company.

For instance, I was excited by an advertisement I saw recently in Computer Gaming World for a comic book/superhero CRPG called Freedom Force, the game looked good, but near the bottom there was a little sign that said 'By The People That Brought You System Shock 2' one of the few realtime games I actually liked, in fact that was an amazing game.

Point being, while it may be the last Wizardry game, I'm betting the people that worked on Wizardry 8 do another CRPG if they haven't already started one. I just can't see how a group of game designers could make a game this good and then just quit; I'm sure there are things they'd like to improve upon. Time will tell.

Not quite. Linda Currie (head honcho for Sir-Tech) posted a few notes on another board about this.

1) Sir-Tech Canada continues to exist as a corporate entity, but pretty much is an empty shell

2) At last word, Linda was the only Wiz8 team member still associated with Sir-Tech. The rest of that team has scattered to several different employers. The patches they generated were done on "spare time"

3) Some very preliminary work was done on Wiz9, but not enough to do anything with

4) Since the team has scattered, it's highly unlikely that Wiz9 could be done by the same team, even if someone with a huge bank account asked them nicely.

5) There are currently no plans for Sir-Tech to sell the Wizardry and Jagged Alliance franchises.

This info is maybe 6 weeks old. Hope this helps clear it up. Truly unfortunate ending given the quality of Wiz8...

Well Atlus did release a Wizardry game for the PS2 recently, albeit one that bears no connection to the main Wizardry series as far as I know. They released it both in Japan and the US, I'm not sure if it made it to Europe, but anyhow obviously they got the license to do it somehow. Who knows maybe we will see another one at some point? I hope so.
