Story seems to be interesting, but ... |

The Perf and Graphics are disappointing. I have a P4 3.0c, 2Gigs of Ram, ATI Radeon 9800XT and I'm experiencing lag at any resolution. There seems to be little, if any, discernable visual difference between resolutions of 1024x768 and 1600x1200. I see the same jaggies and pixelation no matter what resolution I set. Forget about Anti-Aliasing with Radeon cards, its not supported and setting it in game or thru the ati control panel makes the situation worse. Funny thing is, Halo almost runs this poorly on my machine as well. Apparently this is not limited to ATI video cards as I've read forums with NVidia owners having similar issues.
The UI is getting annoying, a common complaint I'm discovering, its always seems to be 'in-the-way'.
Aside from the technical issues I'm still being sucked in by the story and the game is playable so I won't tell folks to avoid it ... yet. Its a shame to have such a great rig and be distracted from what is looking to be a fine game by sub par graphics and sluggish performance. |

sorry to hear, but speaking from the demo experience, my 3.0/512/5900 seems to play it very well at 1024, i haven't bothered with higher resolutions yet though.
but i agree that the hud thing is a bit annoying. it should be about 85% transparent until called up/activated. |

Well, I am sure you guys know this already, but.. I have a lesser machine than you and I am having no trouble running it in 1024x768. But it does take a lot of tweaking in one of the many .ini files the game so generously spreads around.
Anyhow, a few short tips if you want to tweak it yourself (unless you've already done so):
Remove the "Write protection" from Default.ini and open it from the game directory /System. Inside the file, search for:
"MouseLagThreshold=75" and change the value to 0. This will make the game feel more responsive.
If you feel that the UI is too intrusive, try searching (still inside Default.ini) for:
"FOV__d=61" and change that value to 68-70 (whatever suits you best). It pushes the circular UI out to the edges of the screen, so it doesn't crowd up your line of sight.
There are lots of other, small tweaks and tricks to be made in Default.ini, so feel free to experiment all you want. It's worked wonders for me. _________________ Swedes visit NordicGamers for the latest game reviews in swedish! |
