Thank God for MW editor...

I bought Dungeon Siege the day it came out. After 40 hrs I'm bored to death with it. There is no debth or life to that game. But I was looking forward to the DS editor because I like to create my own worlds, areas, items, etc. So I waited and waited and finally ( I thought ) the DS editor came out 5-10-02. I downloaded it knowing full well that it was a beta. Hells Bells they should not have even release it. So now I'm really ticked with Gas Powered Games. It's definitely not a "gas, gas, gas."

Thank God for Morrowind. I don't have the game yet because nobody around my area has it on the shelf. But at least the game is not a 'follow the path you dummy" game. And IT COMES WITH THE ES EDITOR. A full edition, complete and ready to be put to use editor. Man I can't wait to play the game. I REALLY can't wait to create my own worlds. These people know how to do a game right.

I will think really hard before I buy any more games from GPG.

Dungeon Siege

On the defense!

You should cut GPG some slack. The game is absolutely gorgeous and technically a work of art. Yes it's VERY VERY VERY thin on any (most all) RPG game elements but in the many interviews Chris Taylor did he quite openly stated that hardcore RPG fans will be disappointed if not VERY disappointed. (PC Gamer). It has always been sold as a hack and slash fest with non-stop action. Keep in mind that not only is this Taylor's first attempt beyond RTS, it's the first game released by Gas Powered Games (Correct me if I'm wrong). The entire team was hobbled together by Taylor and had to be brought up to speed during this project so the only verteran was him and possibly a few from TA. They DESERVE to be praised for what they've accomplished, not beaten down for what the final product is lacking.

On the offense!

I would have preferred a bit more substance to DS myself, particularly in the skills and power department. If I spend 40+ hours working on a character I want to be notably different than the guy next to me skillwise. That's the major problem with Dungeon Siege. The character development drawing board was very narrow minded and as such the advancement leaves much to be desired. There should have been more schools of magic and characters should have been specialized with great penalties for advancement in other areas. There's a spell to switch your school of magic for !@#!@# sake. This is the programming snafu/"GOTO" method of character balance issues.

The single LARGEST problem with Dungeon Siege is that the ultimate end-result of everyone's hard work is... EVERYONE IS IDENTICAL IN EVERY WAY!

Not much of a payoff if you ask this CRPG'er. (I hate traditional RPG'ing but add a C in front and I'm a junkie!)

EDITOR

Yeah I have that PC Gamer edition too and read the DS article a 100 times before I bought the game. The game is not a "bad" game. Heck yeah the graphics are great, the camera is great... All of the points you make stand.

Still I'm bored with it now. That didn't happen to me with D2 in such a short time. I really thought gameplay would make up for a lot of the "lightness" of the game. Taylor should know about that. I know this is a new team and company. I stand by what I've stated before.

Now for the real reason of the post. The ES Editor. I can't wait to use it. I will come back to DS when they have the DS editor finished. But at least with MW I don't have to wait for it! One could make MW a hack n slash.

I've had the game for a week now, and I love the editor, the tutorials are hit and miss, but once you get the hang of it, it's really easy to make good mods.
