Speed of SKill advancement - major, minor, specialized

Based on in-game descriptions, I know that all skills in the chosen specialization advance at a "faster rate" than non-specialized skills. However, it's not clear to me (and unable to find any speciific info on search) how much faster this is.

I'm also not sure if major skills advance at a faster rate than minor skills regardless of specialization (e.g. does a major skill in a non-specialized category increase faster than a minor skill in a non-specialized or specialized area?).

I'm very interested in understanding this mechanic better as I've chosen to go with a hybrid character with 2 combat skills (blade and block), 2 magic (destruction and restoration) and 3 thieving (sneak, marksman, light armor).

I chose magic as a specialization as I wanted to be able to get alchemy up quickly and use other schools of magic to some degree. However, is this is going to cripple my progression, I may need to redo.

Any input appreciated.

I think you better check that out yourself. And maybe, try a basic character for a start. As the game has been released recently, and I doubt such answers could be find now, as I don't think anyone had the chance to go further in the game to experience that yet. (It's all always nice to know that you've missed up and restart..)

So far from what I have been noticing, the minor skills and the major skill raise at about the same rate. Because I have 2 magics skill at major and 2 magic skills at minor. I used them alot and check on the stats page frequently and all of them rises at the same rate. However, it seems the leveling and attributes will depend mainly on the major skill. The minor skill will contribute a little to your attributes as well

I dont know the technical term to use. But I used speechcraft occasionally (major) and mercantile a lot ( minor) and the next time I level up, I get : personality +3 to +4. Hmm...I am not too good in explaining this, but I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

Dagoo: I found the difference between major an minor skills to be small in terms of advancing speed. The difference increases with the skill level (i.e. harder to get from 75 to 76 in a minor vs a major, than it was at 25->26), but minor skills are still perfectly playable and can be maxed.
I have Mysticism close to 70 only by using Detect Life almost all the time.
I found no difference between specialized skills and the non-specialized ones in terms of advancing speed.

Gengie: You get +1 option to an attribute (when leveling up) for every 2 skill increases in any skill governed by that attribute (to a max of +5).
So, for example, if you start a level with Block 20 and Heavy Armor 20 and get them to 24 and 24, you had 8 skill increases, that is +4 to your Endurance (assuming the Armorer stayed the same).
It does not matter if the skills are major or not, or in the selected specialization (i.e. magic, combat, etc).

Blienmeis, thank you very much for explaining it so clearly to me. Now I have a total understanding of the scaling terms. Again thanks
