Should game developers put children NPC's in the game and allow unscrupulous players the choice of killing them?

Since Arx is an open-ended game, where you can basically do whatever you feel, including whack anyone with your favorite sword, kill whomever or whatever you want.....(see poll question)

Good question. I think it totally depends on the game in question, and I do think developers should take responsibility for content in their games especially those whose audience will include children. But in a game aimed at mature players, in which freedom of choice is an overriding theme, curtailing the players' choices would be a contradiction in terms - so yes, child-killing should be possible (however distasteful). Such a game should include some depiction of realistic repercussions, too.
