Someone help!

I have bought this game and have been playing it for a couple of weeks and am totally stuck right at the beginning. I have got the battery from the monastry and am in town. I have fought the rats in the poor mans house and i dont know what to do next! I cannot open the safe because it is burnt and the gorilla on the beach kills me with 2 hits as do the bandits in the cave.

Can anyone help with this?? I cant find a walkthrough for the game either so if anyone knows of one....
