Dungeon Lords: CE Edition Review @ GamerDad

Catching up on a couple of items after out outage yesterday, GamerDad let us know they has a review of the Collector's Edition of Dungeon Lords. The score is 3/5 and here's the intro:
When originally released in early May of 2005, Dungeon Lords was a combat focused fantasy role-playing game that I described in the GamerDad Review as "a mess that was not ready for release." I also said, "the dungeons are very well designed, full of surprises and challenging puzzles and it is clear that the greatest effort went into their design." Nine months and four patches later, most of the bugs have been fixed and some features present in previews but not in the released game such as character customization and the auto-map have been added. Recently, Dreamcatcher released the Dungeon Lords Collector's Edition which "includes new quests, spells, effects, monsters and amazing new heraldries and character customizations to take your RPG experience even deeper". This poses some obvious questions. Does the sum total of all the patches and additions since the initial release make it worth buying if you skipped it so far? And if you already bought the initial release is the Collector's Edition worth paying full price again?

An ass by any other name would smell just as. . . do I really need to finish this thought?

DL standard vs. DL collectors ed. = Ninth Circle of Hell vs. First Circle of Hell - It's still Hell!!

That is hilarious!

I had done that screenshot in order to illustrate how laborious the dialogue system is ... but I don't recall the furniture seeming out of proportion - I'm a female elf and the other person is a normal person (human or elf I can't recall).

Of course, since Dungeon Lords crashes badly if you attempt alt-tab, you have to hit PrntScrn, then exit the game and past the shot, then restart the game. What a hassle.

I never bought DL when it first came out because of the bad reaction by both the press and gamers alike.

But I picked up the CE edition because, well, I have the money to burn. As it turns out, it's not a bad game at all...

Just reading news, reviews, and commentary pertaining to Dungeon Lords has proven to be entertaining in itself. Who would have thought I'd appreciate so much a game I've never even played. Thanks DW!

Mike,

google for the UO Screenshot Utility. It has been quite reliable so far. Just configure the path, filename, hotkey and set the data format to uncompressed .bmp.

Thanks - I'll remember that if I reinstall DL or run into another alt-tab unfriendly game!
