I have read all the posts about Mss32.Dll and everyone seems to say to restore your computer back to when it was working. Well I need to do that but i dont know how can anyone tell me what to do?

Wrong.
Change your sound provider to DirectSound HW.
This fixed it for a lot of people.

Change the sound provider in Gothicīs sound options menu. Then restart Gothic to reinitialize the sound hardware.

ok but only one problem with that. I cant get into Gothic. When I try and enter it an error message comes up and says Mss32.dll cant start so i cant even get into the game and i cant uninstall it either.

Damn. We have two different mss32 problems.

Try the things I mentioned in the other similar thread:
open the gothic.ini with an editor, go to the [Sound] section and disable music, sound and extended providers.
Then try to start Gothic.


Lets assume this wonīt help. Do I understand you correctly, you want to reinstall a clean windows? Or do you want to try to uninstall Gothic, fix some things and reinstall it?

well all i really want to do is uninstall Gothic so i can reinstall it. But it wont uninstall so i guess I am open to anything that will help.

Ya I played with the ini but nothing worked. The game worked fine the first time i installed it. But when i went to uninstall it is when all my problems began.

Windows 98
Intel 810e chipset video card
Celeron aroun 500 i think
192mb ram

This means that all the drivers are okay.
I would simply rename the Gothic directory and then try to install it again. If it works delete the first copy.

Well... It won't uninstall and everytime I try to reinstall it in gives me a chooice to modify, repair, or uninstall. None of them do anything. So I can get to the regular install screen to change the directory.

I meant first rename the dir, then install in the standard dir.

ok good idea. But how do I rename the directory? I have never done anything like this before.
