There's a guy here at work that is full-on UFC devotee, and I watched a few matches with him that he had taped at his place between movies once. I didnt like it, was pretty different from what I thought it was going to be.The big draw seems to be the fact that blood is often literally shed, from the brow and nose. Merely the sight of blood is just not exhilirating for me, there are plenty of gore sites that show the kind of grue to make even EMT's wince. Secondly, the fights themselves, for being some sort of "no holds barred" multiple-style fights, often are basically two guys rolling around wrestling on the ground until one gets on top and starts raining blows down or gets a good hold. I thought it was like you know, KungFu versus Street-fighter, or even just two guys trading and blocking skilled punches and kicks. No, this is more like watching two kids duking it out in the lunchroom if you ask me
Then, as if I couldnt be any more turned-off to it, alot of the show wasnt even the fights. There's these huge segments where it takes like a documentary twist, and the fighter is walking along some stream or whatever to soft music, talking about his life or his mom, or his culture or some other melodramatic crap. Hard music starts playing and he's now punching the bag, and it goes music video style. It struck me as strangely WWF in a way. Maybe these matches you put up wont have the little productions along with the battles, perhaps that only takes place or taped matches or somthing.
Anyway, if you like this sort of thing, I would suggest you check out a movie called "The Smashing Machine". _________________ “Then away out in the woods I heard that kind of a sound that a ghost makes when it wants to tell about something that's on its mind and can't make itself understood, and so can't rest easy in its grave, and has to go about that way every night grieving.”-Mark Twain |
