RF Online: Game Unveiled at London MCM Expo @ Official Forum

Publisher Codemasters will be showing their futuristic Sci-fi MMORMG, RF Online, at the London Movie Comic Media (MCM) Expo on October 29th and 30th. This will be the game's first introduction to Western audiences. Further details are in the official announcement. If you're not familiar with RF Online, here's a description from their site:

RF Online is an epic mix of traditional fantasy MMOG mixed with unique futuristic sci-fi action to bring an entirely new and original take on the existing MMORPG genre. Set in a deep space galaxy known as Novus, take your pick from three all-powerful warring factions leading your character into the final battle for total control over the entire Novus galaxy. Chose from either the Bellato Union, taking control of individual robot battle units like never seen before within any MMOG, Holy Alliance Cora, the mystical and fantasy orientated race utilising the power of magic and finally the mighty Accretia Empire, a futuristic alien race intent on spreading destruction across the entire sector with their advanced weaponry systems.

These companies are so afraid of pumping millions of dollars into developing MMOGs just to have them fold after a few months or never see the light of day. I do not blame them.

I fail to understand how bringing Super Nintendo Anime style androgynous Cloud Strife look alikes to the west is going to be any more profitable though.

Maybe the gameplay elements, game content and future plans for the game will make this title sellable to the MMO market, and adding themes/scenarios new to the game place, could entice players to join the RF community.

Believe me, pumping millions into a game for a number of years and then having to halt it's development isn't something companies like doing or wish to do. Things like that happen thougha s at the end of th eday, these are businesses and survival is key in such a turbulent industry.

Here, RF is developed by an established developer from a market place that eats breathes and excretes MMO's....surely there has to be something right there that has led to such a success in Korea and in the MMO market

Just my 2 cents
