Anyone played as a mage in Gothic 2? |
|
If so, tell me...
Is the mage system like in Gothic 1 when you have to first join a camp
and then have to option of going for a guard or a mage, or can you just
join the mages at the monastery and train magic immediately?
Oh and another thing, which guild must i join to become a dragon slayer? _________________ For all you headbangers, check out my band's page @ http://www.black-oath.com |

The mages are one of the 'camps' in Gothic II, so you're free to join them as soon as you can afford it.
You'll have to slay dragons as a member of all the major guilds, but to become a dragonslayer by name you should join the mercenaries. _________________ Jaz |

I assume from this, that you have to pay to join the mages. Could you give a few more details to those of us who are still waiting for the game to be released. _________________ If God said it, then that settles it!

To join the mages guild, you must bring them a sheep (which you can get from a specific farm) and 1000 gold - which means you got quite a bit of hunting or looting to do before you can join them. Its worth it though, the quests you get to rise from novice to mage are fun and of course magic is just cool . |

I'm afraid to ask, but what do they want the sheep for? _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

They have a whole little herd in there... They need the sheep to keep an unhappy novice busy who would rather study magic. Just wait and see. |

Rangers are (and were) not a true class, but in G2 melee classes are most effectve when proficient with bow or crossbow... if only because there's no way to block an arrow. Having said that, G2 swordplay is soooo cool... it's still a player skill and there's nothing like a man and his sword.
Mages are a lot of fun too with nice side quests. The greater quest however is mana management, they are SUVs when it comes to fuel consumption. Regardless, thanks to area spells and distant combat they level like nothing else... No bow (not to mention swords) can beat the accuracy and range of a spell. |

When god gives you a keg, you've gotta kill a virgin
No, really, they might use it as a sacrifice to Innos. I wonder if they do that in gothic? |

( Answers might be spoliers)
What are the benfits to joining each camp?
are they all fun side quests - is there mor humour in G2 than G1? _________________ "The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. The following description of class specific benefits might be considered a spoiler. (Select text to read)
The paladin is a robust and very powerful zealot in service of Innos. Very straight forward to play. The sturdy knight in shining armor. No micromanagement, he simply gets his runes as reward for his services. Armor is cheap (IIRC), swords are expensive.
The mage is in fact a pious priest, again in service of Innos. He has powerful area spells and the class specific quest are interesting. Mana management, build his runes from components (must find components). The most subtile class. Melee penalty, so the focus is on rune magic.
The mercenary/dragon hunter is true to the G1 new camp theme: He is the opportunist who values freedom, directness, profit and raw power. Strong and sturdy, no strings attached. No rune magic (and scrolls are expensive). His are the most powerful swords and they come cheap (DIY), but dragon hunter armor is very expensive. |
