This is the 2nd best RPG I've ever played. |

The first best one was, of course, Daggerfall. For all of Daggerfalls shortcomings, it still DOMINATES Morrowind in terms of sheer scope and dimension. So what if the 1,000+ towns all looked the same? If there where a thousand cut+paste Morrowind towns, I'd be all the merrier. Here a few things I remember from Daggerfall that make it better:
1)At night, cat burglars could break into shops& loot them for all they're worth. No such luck in MW.
2)You could buy a boat, HORSE (I cannot BELIEVE with all the walking you do in this game the don't provide you something like a horse) and house. Yes, I know Morrowind has a stronghold and I think that r0xx0rz... but the fact is, I have to join a Great House to do it, and that was nothing I really take joy in doing,
3)There was way more guilds. From the Fighters guild to the thieves guild (yes, i know those two are in MW) to the obscure knightly orders of the various provinces, it offered way more choices.
My point is, I like Morrowind's focus on a storyline... something that you could very simply (too simply) ignore in Daggerfall. I like Morrowinds focus and pain-staking attention to detail. But, I LOVED Daggerfall's sheer size and scope and total do-whatever-the-hell you feel like in a big-ass world feel. Don't get me wrong, MW is big... but Daggerfall dwarfs everything in comparison. Maybe we'll never reach a good medium between DF and MW because DF's size was simply unworkable for some things. I know you can't have detail for 1,000 seperate towns. Maybe an almost bug-free world the size of DF's is impossible (then again, MW crashes to desktop to often). But I'll keep on dreamin, dreamin of Elder Scrolls 4: Return to Daggerfall. |

Hehe, it's true, Morrowind is huge, incredibly huge, but still a small fraction of the size of what Daggerfall was and even Arena.
The question is: Is a far bigger world worth the price of cut-n-paste cities, dungeons, and other places? For me, no.

What I miss from daggerfall.
- climbing (That rocked!)
- NPCs on day/night schedule (needed to climb the gates if locked out at night)
- Horseys!! |

Hey, I never played Daggerfall. Was there any information on the different races and stuff that appear in Morrowind in Daggerfall? i.e. did you play Nords, Redguards, Bretons and Imperials or are they all new. I feel I'm missing something in my character, who is a Breton, because I know very very little about Breton or it's history. Does anyone know where I could find something out?
Also if it's in Morrowind some suggested reading would be fine. I haven't tackled the multi volume "History of the Empire" yet, maybe it's in there. I'm going to occupy the Bookstore in Balmore soon, I have this feeling the owner is going to go missing.... |

Hey, you know whats cool? Within a year, enough mods will be around to give you your 1000 cities, most of them even handcrafted
And horses CAN be done with the editor, and I know some are working on it. I want quality rather quantity, but to each his own. |

I am a diehard pc rpger and I loved the idea of daggerfall, but I could never get into it, due to the randomness and constant bugs. I gave up playing it very early on. Morrowind on the other hand feels so much more like a complete world with a rational structure within which to roleplay. Also, I am lucky enough to have a pc that can run this in all its glory with not the slightest glitch. The only bug I've encountered is the occassional crash to desktop (not really a problem with quicksave). Daggerfall on the other hand was a mess. I think you may be romantizing the "idea" that was daggerfall. IMHO MW is exponentially a better realization of this idea. |

I agree that we tend to remember some games too fondly. I loved the huge feel of Daggerfall at first, but after 30 hours I'd felt like I'd already seen everything due to the randomness. With Morrowind I've played more like 40 hours and I feel like I've barely seen anything -- I still haven't ventured beyond the southwest corner of the map between Vivec and Balmora. Also don't forget how easy it was to break quests, not to mention all the time spent in that damnable void, staring up at the world.

1. Morrowind
2. Baldur's Gate 2
3. Ultima 7
4. Ultima Underworld

1 of thebest rpg games is still secret of mana for the snes.

i am really enjoying MW! but i have to admit that gothic is every bit as wonderful as MW. i think that the combat system in gothic was more robust than MW's, however the majick system in MW is tremedously more interesting (the only short-fall is majicka regeneration). otherwise i think each game offers a unique rpg environment in which to grow and evolve. _________________ "The origin of things, if things have an origin, cannot be revealed to me, if revealed at all, until I have travelled very far from it, and many revolutions of the sun must precede my first dawn. Hmm...I definately don't agree. Gothic doesn't even come close to MW and the combat controls in Morrowind aren't nearly as annoying as they were in Gothic. Now that I thnk about it, you really can't compare the two games. Gothic is more like an adventure game and Morrowind an rpg. |

I've played a bunch.
Baldur's II.
EQ,Anarchy Online,DAOC,etc.,and now Morrowind.
The rpg that impressed me most is without a doubt Fallout 2.
I won't bother to list why.
