Wacky Home Page Formatting |
|
For months now whenever I go to the main page, most of the site is squeezed onto the right side of the screen.
What is happening is the RPGDOT banner is in the left column and the rest of the web site is on the right columm. In essense the main page is coming out in two column and many times the right column is so squeezed that a line of text on the right side might be only 4 or 5 words. Curiously the forums are formatted properly in that there is only one column for the page.
I looked at the Internet options and messed around with various cookie adjustments but nothing changed the strange 2 column formatting of the main page. Any ideas on how to correct? |

I see the same thing when the page is first starting to load, but the navigation column shifts over to the left when the rest of the page loads. |

Okay, so then it seems my problem is that the balance of the column is not shifthing over to the left. Why? And how come this does not happen on the forum page? And why is this phenomenon only occuring on RPGDot? |

Unfortunately, it's a permanent state of affairs with my computer.
I went to my wife's computers and the RPGdot page loads fine. I guess I can compare source code, but honestly, I'm not that HTML bright to be able to discern the differences.
I searched this forum and did not find a thread on this problem. However based on what has been said in this thread and on other sites (i post this problem at Octopus Overlords), it is not a rare problem.
I consider this my number one site for RPG news but all the scrolling around is a big big hassle and whenever I go here a big "OH BROTHER" always pops in my mind. |

Try Firefox. I used to get a similar error with IE. I haven't had it with Firefox. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Yep, Firefox minimizes layout loading problems. _________________ Jaz |

It's just so very curious that this problem has been happening with a number of users but it seems only on RPGdot. It sounds like someone stuck some malicious code in the front page html. But then again, wouldn't everyone be experiencing the problem? |

- I use FireFox, still have the problem from time to time
- It really is not only this site, but some other are affected from time to time as well
- It seems to me to be related to loading, i.e. the layout loads (and when it is slow, you can even see the formatting to go through the 'bad state' to the 'good state'). Sometimes it gets stuck in the 'bad state'. |

Hate to throw out something simple, but did you dump your internet cache so that IE would reload all the relevant data from scratch? _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

Good idea but no good.
I lost all my cookies about 2 weeks ago so that wasn't the issue and per your advise I went in and deleted all my temp internet files.
I still have the wacky front page formatting.
I'll keep this tread alive because it seems to happen to a lot of people who visit RPGDot. |

Well that stinks.
You might try going into your profile and changing the display template to Divinity, or to Icicle if you're already using Divinity. Going to the different template would force your system to request a new layout config. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

YOU THE MAN
As a friend at work says continually with his heavy European accent
You're a genious
Intially I changed the profile in the forums and that didn't help but than on the front page there is another site setting item. At the very bottom of that page is the settings selection. I found Divinity which was the only choice. I clicked it and I changed it and now everything is right with the world.
Thank you. |
