house telvanni quest problem...

Working my way up in House Telvanni and hit a snag. Sent to ask a guy in Gnisis 3 questions about the dwarves/dwemer but I go there and realize it's a cranky fellow I killed months ago (it was self-defense, I swear!) This was the very first quest from 1 of the 5 "Mouths" of H.T. and I was hoping someone else might have run into this and could tell me if I can still get to the top in this screwy outfit or should I climb into the Wayback Machine and try my luck elsewhere. Thanks.

He is not cranku - he is actually one of the few well informed and honest people in the Telvanni. Or was anyway. He is the man when it comes to knowing about the dwarves.

try going to hise house and then
~player->placeAtPC "Balderas Delvanni" 1,20,1
or something like that (both the command and name could be slightly off)
~RA might also work

Note: You dont actually need to do all the quests to become Arch-Magister but you will NEED him alive for a later Telvanni quest so if he is really dead for ever then you are hosed.

My prob with Talvanni was getting stuck at master lvl, and not allowed to advance further. Any clues on this one??

Yeah - we all had that one.
Its a bug and to fix it go into the console (hit ~) then type

player->lowerRank "telvanni"

It could be reducerank instead.

Then talk to him again.

Its caused by talking to him before he is ready to advance you and asking him to do so. He says he refuses but he doesn't. If he could have advanced you then, he would have given you the choice.

The master/magister bug is fixed now. I had no problem rising to Arch-magister. I'm also Arch-mage, so that makes me one powerful wizard!!
