Can you recommend a RPG?

Hi there people
Haven't played any games in a while,- and, actually, not many at all.
Having played The Prince of Persia, I left the virtual world until someone gave me Fallout I and II. Six months later, I thought there won't be another game like it,- I went through the Baldur's Gates II and stopped again, until I discovered Gothic II.

At this point, I know every blade of grass in GII (and my new videocard isn't compatible with it anyways), I'm bored- and I need and advice.

Whilst awaiting Gothic III- what would you think is a worthy game to waste my time on?

Thanks in advance!

A bit off topic, but oh well. Recently I played Bard's Tale, and really enjoyed it. It's light on role playing, heavy on action, and really heavy on quirky humour. There's a lot of funny songs in it, too

Maybe you should be a bit more specific what kind of RPG you want?

Well, I mentioned what I played before- I guess I know little about video games.
But either real time, or turn-based- Fallout, Baldur's Gate and Gothic are the only three I know

Did you hear about Knights of the Old Republic? Itīs a Star Wars RPG by Bioware. Sort of a Baldurīs Gate light combined with G2īs quests. Very mainstream. It starts slowly but itīs a very good game.

I've heard of it, but ignored it due to the fact that Star Wars never impressed me. Why? I don't know. Just never liked those movies.
I wish they made The Neverending Story game...
But I'll check it out still- it seems there aren't that many good RPG's around.
Thanks Gorath!

There are many good RPGs, but theyīre very different and each of them has a lot of personality. This makes it hard to assume a game player A likes is also enjoyable for player B.

Just looked at Top 100 games
Seems like there aren't many recent games that made it to Top 20

Now I understand still more why people are so eager to finally see Gothic 3 and Fallout 3 released. While I hope to check out the former soon, I almost lost my hopes for the latter...

Fallout 3 is in development at Bethesda (Morrowind, Oblivion).

Our top 100 is manipulated by lots of 1/10 votes. Itīs true that RPGs were deeper in the gold old days, though. Today the budgets are bigger. Thus games have to attract a mainstream audience to earn money.

Good RPGs tend to come in waves. In 2002 we had Gothic (1 &) 2, Morrowind, Divine Divinity, Arx Fatalis and NWN.
2006 will see G3, Oblivion, The Witcher, Hellgate:London, Sacred 2, NWN 2 and a few more.

Do you live in Europe? Play.com has Vampire - Bloodlines for 5.99 GBP shipped.

No, I live in Canada

What do you think of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. the shadows of chernobyl?
I read people aticipate it to be Falloutish, but it looks like a shooter to me, judging by their website...

I tried Jugged Alliance 2, but quit half wat through, finding it incredebly hard to stay alive, and not too intriguing.

So, the Vampire worth checking out?

Sounds very interesting. Russian game, very big budget. Itīs a shooter, maybe with a few RPG elements. The production doesnīt run smoothly. It gets delayed again and again.

Okay, this rules out the tactical turn-based games like Silent Storm.
Still, if you like superheroes you could download the Freedon Force vs the 3rd Reich demo.

I didnīt play it, but I heard itīs good, albeit a bit rushed and unfinished. I wish I had more time for gaming.
Vampire 2 uses the Half Life 2 engine. The team had many Fallout developers in it.
