Yes, there's an official German strategy guide. I don't know about an official English one but you can try JemyM's FAQ at GothicDot.

I have found quite a few strategy guides in English, try searching google "Gothic Walkthrough" Although if your looking for somthing in better detail, like wher to find good weapons, who to beat up for a nice peice of ore..etc... then i dunno :/
