Poll Results and New Poll |
|
It's a fairly quiet news day, so time to update the poll. We looked at your favourite gaming genre other than cRPGs, with turn-based strategies streaking ahead to a massive lead with >33% and shooters lagging way behind at 13.5% (I should note I screwed up the categories with "4x strategy" incorrectly grouped for a few hours).

Following on from shooters there was a close battle with MMORPGs, classic adventures, action/adventures and "only RPGs" holding a little over 10%. Dipping down to 6% we find RTS, with other strategy, sports and other trailing away. It's clear there's a synergy between turn-based cRPGs and strategy among our readership, with TB combat comfortably winning our poll on preferred combat system late last year.

It's been some time since we polled your console habits, so we'll tackle that subject with this poll and compare any shift in responses. Hit the poll on the left. |

I counted handhelds (GBA, DS & PSP) as 'consoles', and therefore instead of 'None, PC Only', I put 'Some, but more PC'. Even just a year ago (GBA only) it would have been 'Very Occasionally', but a few 50+ hour handheld games later ...

I put down "some, but more PC". Consoles probably get 10% to 20% of my time. However, what I play on consoles is completely different than what I play on PC. All RPGs have been on PC. On the console I play games with my kids, like driving games, or even old games like SuperMario. |

The fundemental issue for me with consoles is that you can't "do" anything with them, they play games and that's it. A PC can be used for such a wealth of activities, this more than makes up for the additonal costs. Consoles are the pin-up posters for developers / publishers, as their one-size-fits-all approach makes development significately easier and quicker. But as a consumer, PC wins every way I look at it for me (which is to say, PC-only approach is not for everyone).
So you can guess which way I've voted (and possibly going to stir up some discussion along the way).
