Is anyone a member of any gaming clans ? Or maybe are you even a leader of one ?
I am asking this too see how many people are in groups that play games online.
I am personally the Leader of one clan called [SLA] and we are mostly oriented on the game called Operation Flashpoint.

Yes, it's allowed.
I'm in Knights of Neverwinter, in fact I started it and continue to lead it. We're just a small group that played NWN on the weekends together. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

There doesnt seem to be a whole lot of tactical strategy clan people around these forums, people are mostly into singleplayer rpg sagas. Definitely not any clans here with that persuasion.There was one girl who was into Recon here, but she wouldnt play MP. I play some tactical, Ghost Recon is my fave, but it doesnt seem that many share the same sentiment for Clancy's Tactics.
I know there is going to be a World of Warcraft guild or two here when that's released, I think a group of mages, warriors, and archers against a squad or two would be great fun! Check back in a few mos _________________ “Then away out in the woods I heard that kind of a sound that a ghost makes when it wants to tell about something that's on its mind and can't make itself understood, and so can't rest easy in its grave, and has to go about that way every night grieving.”-Mark Twain |

1) I've been a member of a LAN clan since '96, though we changed names somewhere along the way... we started out as [27Co], then we merged with another clan back in '98 to form [TKKG] and split up in 2001 which made us [LYONER]. We started with Quake team deathmatch and played about every multiplayer shooter and a few select RTSes from then on. Nowadays we're mainly playing Day of Defeat, Battlefield 1942 and Unreal Tournament in the shooter departments as well as C&C Generals in the RTS category, but occasionally we'll play other games as well.
Rarely will you meet one of us 14 [LYONER] people online. My clan name is [LYONER]_von_Hoell, and I'm decent in all three of our main games, but not really brilliant. My personal learning curve is very steep, but it flattens really quickly, meaning, I'm usually the one who grasps a game's mechanics first, but I'm quickly overtaken by most others after a short while because they are talented and I'm not . This is why I'm the clan's trainer/drill instructor, a post I held since '96.
2) I was recruited into an online clan named {GD} a few months ago. I declined the first invitation because I felt I wasn't good enough but I accepted the second one because I felt like playing online again. {GD} is a mixed (US and German) clan playing Red Orchestra exclusively, and while I'm not a really good shot, I found out I'm quite handy with grenades. Three of us {GD}ers have been recruited as beta testers for RO since then.
My rank in {GD} is Sanitätsunteroffizier (~medic), and my clan name is {GD}GG (don't ask ) . _________________ Jaz |

Well, I wasn't going to post and instead just add my vote to the crowd, but since I'm the first "no" vote I guess I'll have to explain!
I currently play a bit of Quake 3 online, and have very much enjoyed the other Quakes, too. However, I don't get too involved in the scene, certainly not enough to consider joining a "clan".
This is basically - trying not to sound too elitist - because I'm rather unimpressed with most of the people I've met online in the FPS setting. Muds I've got no problem with, forums are fine, but FPS games seem to attract some of the worst kind of offensive, vulgar and aggressive morons the world has produced. While I'm sure they are very much a minority, I just can't seem to avoid them! They permeate the whole fabric of the community, and just drag things down.
Other, less idealistic people are able to ignore them and enjoy themselves, but I just can't. So I stay out of things, and leave others to the more political side of online gaming. _________________ Charlie Dobbie

It depends a lot on the games you play. Sure, there are always tons of online idiots or just unenlightened people around, but it actually does depend a lot on th egame you play. The rule: the more popular and simplistic a game is, the worse the crowd. I've been playing zillions of shooters online in my time, and the worst communities I ever was a part of were the Quake and CS communities. The UT and Tribes communities were always a lot nicer and generally far more mature. The DoD community has gone down the drain since the game went commercial, while the RO community is still small and the game not action-oriented enough and too much of a simulation to be a crowd-attracter. Players - no, not players: testers tend to be a lot older than in most other games: there are three or four teenage beta testers, a few are in their twenties, most others are 40+ - I'm one of the younger ones with 37. The Spieß of my RO clan (another tester) is 45.
Sure, age is not the only determining factor, but as a general rule it tends to calm down peope somewhat if compared to the wild teenage years . _________________ Jaz |

@Val
Small groups can usually be more fun then big groups. (Not everytime but to spend time with your friends playing is great no matter how many off you there is.)
@xSamhainx
I like Tom Clancy's Games too but i never play it over internet.
@Jaz
That's quite a large history you've got there. I was once in a Rune clan but when i became Leader's Right hand things got worse and worse from that day. Then one day they threw me off their clan because the leader was afraid i would take over his position.
@Drake_14
I didn't join it. I created it.
@cfmdobbie
There are always people who think that ruining other people's games are fun. I've got used to it. But to tell the truth OPF has preety "clean" people that play. It was a very rare ocasion (sp?) that i met a person who would flame someone else or something.

Flashpoint has some awesome outdoor environments and vehicles! Me and my former clan did a demo session all night once, running over each other with tanks and stuff was hilarious. Never got the full version tho, It was decision time between Recon and Flashpoint, and Recon won.
Just playing against the Recon ai as a team is great fun, going for most kills. Good practice too. Havent done much Rainbow6 type SWAT-type indoor tactical gaming, I tend to get blindsided in those small indoor enviros. Seems every time I come around a corner, I get shot in the face! I peek, peek, peek again around corners, then sure as heck I turn the corner and theres a enemy scrunched up in the corner BLAMMo! ='.'= _________________ “Then away out in the woods I heard that kind of a sound that a ghost makes when it wants to tell about something that's on its mind and can't make itself understood, and so can't rest easy in its grave, and has to go about that way every night grieving.”-Mark Twain |

I'm a member and founder of Nordiska Kompaniet, a CS clan made for fun. If you kill [NK]Coco Chanel online, that would be me. _________________ CaptainWorshipperNonFlamer

I agree. Smaller groups are definately better for roleplaying games. It's easier to keep the group together and follow the plot. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!
