I have a Nvidia GeForce III AGP 64mb, and I can only see most effects like blood on the ground, torches, and other visual effects from a high view angle above my charactor. However on a fresh reload all the effects work fine. But as I see the barrier in the sky fade away so does the effect.

Possible some of the graphic problems are somehow tied to the barrier then? Or perhaps it's another problem screwing the barrier as well as the effects. But why does it work 100% fine for about 10 seconds after a load or gamestart? Hmm.

Also anyone else notice that in game when typing for save game name and in the console that the Y and Z keys are reversed?

Any other thoughts?

Also I noticed often when I cast spells, I see the spell effect throughout the sky where the barrier graphic normally is. Hmm...

This sounds like a driver issue. Are you using Det.23.11?

The game uses German keyboard layout, of course.

Then goto nVidia and download the DetonatorXP 23.11 for your windows version. This is the best version so far for Gothic on a GeForce3.
