Gothic: problems picking up items & Blade of Darkness:st

How do I pick up items off of the ground or from a chest in Gothic?
Also, I'm stuck on 1st level of Blade of Darkness in high place in ancient city, can't get over a high wall with a pit of spikes beneath and can't find a walkthrough for the game anywhere. Help? Thanks, Zanfador@hotmail.com

Behold gentle traveler, there are many walk-thoughs available on the net, and one of the best can be found on this site. One thing that I would like to point out though, is your desire to acquire this Sword of Darkness. While this sword is adequate, certainly you have heard in your quests around Gothicdom of the infamous Nellik's Sword. Yes, gentle traveler, Nellik's Sword, which is by far the most awesome and dangerous weapon that can be found in the game. If I remember correctly, Nellik's Sword can be found in Chapter 4 or 5 under the ledge by the mountain. Good luck in your traveles

Master sauron38 has shown us, what appears to be, the infamous Nellik's Knife. One usually forgets about this simple blade when one finds and holds the infamous Nellik's Sword. Although Nellik's Knife is certainly mighty enough to help you complete the game; nothing compares to the awesome power of the much superior Nellik's Sword. With this blade, you will witness grown men run from you and monster crawl away in fear. Thank you once again gentle sauron38 for refreshing my memory on the smaller, but effective Nellik's Knife

Is it possible to use this Knife in conjunction with the hidden Dowsing skill in order to find the Sword on the map?

Thank you once again Gentle Sauron38 for reminding me about finding the infamous Nellik's Sword with the hidden Dowsing skill quest, which you will not be able to complete if you have used the famous Nellick's Knife in combat. If memory serves me well, this quest is given only at night and must be completed at night. There seemed to be a lot of traveling back and forth between Cor-Kalom and Mordrag doing that stupid "bring me a bucket of swamp mud" quest to trigger the hidden Dowsing skill quest. The bucket quest, while not difficult, was easily foiled by the repetitive tasks assigned by Cor-Kalom and the constant complaining by Mordrag. It took me three or four times to complete the task completly. The necessary steps to take are in the walk-through sowhere if I remember correctly.
I don't think I will go into too much detail about either quest because this is the general section of the Gothic Forum and not the help section.
Thank you again Gentle Sauron38 for refreshing my memory

No actual spoilers. They are just bull****ting again. There is no Nellik's sword, no Nellik's knife, and no secret dowsing skill. Our fun gang just added some new forum myths to the old ones.

Gee wiz, I was looking all over Gothicdom for the infamous Nelliks' Sword. I even started the "bring me a bucket of swamp mud" quest given by Cor-Kalom and had finally given the last bucket to Mordrag so that Mordrag will let me know about the hidden Dowsing skill quest; so that I would at least have the smaller, less effective Nellik's Knife. And now you tell me this a joke? Boy, that's not very funny. I'm going to finish the "swamp bucket" quest anyway and see what happens

*groan*
There's no Swamp Bucket quest, either. Mud jr. belongs to the fun gang as well.

Boy, it's a good thing I didn't do that silly "bucket" quest. Thanks for pointing out those "fun gang" characters, Jaz

The only Mud I know used to be very talkative as well, spreading all that BS all over the place. Now he's a nice, quiet guy, sitting still on a bench, next to Snaf's cauldron. And he DO knows now to show some respect. These Mud bunch round here are his relatives? Let me guess: his gramma, his step-father
and the cousin of his dead brother. Nice family. And the saga of those Nellik blades quite addictive. Now what?
