UbiSoft drops Starforce - HoMM5 will be "clean"

While there's no grand announcement, word around several gaming communities is that UbiSoft has dropped Starforce protection on future titles - including Heroes of Might & Magic V, as confirmed by Producer Fabrice Cambournet (posting as MuadDib) in this thread:
Hello all

I can confirm that we wont use Starforce on Heroes 5.

That's a smart move on their part.

StarForce is known to mess with people's computers and anyway .. SF games get pirated anyway so .. i don't see a reason why they shouldn't use a more "user friendly" copy-protection for their games. At least you don't have to bother to re-start your PC because of the damned StarForce.

Good riddance UbiSoft.

Very good news, it is a series I am looking forward to exploring, since I am so taken by Disciples II, a game that from what Ive read, borrows heavily from HOMM.
Nice little preview at gamespot with lots of shots n video

I just wish I could see the look on the SF execs faces in their smokey boardroom meeting, erasing another title off the dry-erase board. Must suck being their PR guy, nothing you can do is right at this point, time to go back to working "collection" for the russian mob
