| Asheron's Call 2 beta has started. |

It seems that the first wave of AC1 players got their invitation letters according to several news sites like ACVault and COD.
Also the official site has a statement:
Asheron's Call 2 Beta Has Begun!
June 25, 2002: On the heels of our last message, we are pleased to announce that as of today, June 25th, the first wave of AC2 invitations have been sent! Read the details here.

Nope. Dark Majesty was an expansion for Asheron's Call 1.
Asheron's Call 2 is a completely new product. (Just like Everquest had a ton of expansion packs but Everquest II will be a completely new product)
I suggest you go read about AC2, atleast the graphics have evolved a bit since AC1. I hope they kept the addiction factor in  (I played AC1 for like 2-3 years including betas).

I've been camping other boards quite actively (vnboards and xrgaming mainly) but lately joined the RPGdot because this seemed to be a lot better place than the old whine infested boards

Are those invitations for AC1 players? I know that the first stage of beta will be AC1 players only. Or is that stage over by now and this is phase 2?

Yeah, the invitations are sent to AC1 players and to the internal betatesting team (which I happen to be a member of)  .
