Well, I got Gothic 2 and it's dark and takes forever to load |
|
The grandkids remembered my birthday and surprised me by giving me Gothic 2 last week. I loaded it on the computer and the first thing I noticed was that the game surroundings were quite dark. I am only at Lobart's Farm, but the game is quite dark. There was 3 dragonbees on the way that I could barely see. I looked for a darkness setting but there does not appear to be one. I turned the detail all the way up but that didn't help. The game doesn't appear to be the quality of Gothic 1 either. I was re-playing Gothic prior to my birthday and it was very fluid and the graphics appeared better.
Another thing bothers me, load time. It takes 5 minutes and 10 seconds from clicking on the game and getting a game loaded. It takes a minute and half just loading the "virtual disk file system"
Is the darkness and long loading time typical for everyone. |

I have a fairly high end system, so I didn't have that problem.
Go to Options. Go to Video Settings.
You can adjust the Brightness, Contast and Gamma there. _________________ -=Professional Secret Agent=-

I have a 1G processor with 256 mem and a sus v8200 video card. I think my computer is fast enough, although I could be wrong. I am not complaining about the detail, I am saying the game is dark. |

I was refering to the load times with my first statement. Gothic 2 is very RAM intensive.
You should be able to fix the darkness problem by adjusting it in-game or by increasing your monitor brightness manually. _________________ -=Professional Secret Agent=-

You haven't got enough RAM. 256 barely allows to run the game at all. |

Maybe that's a problem. I have had messages saying something about coputer resources were VERY low while playing the game. How much RAM should I have?? |

Half-a-double will do fine, as well. I have roughly the same stats as you, and the game is playable. Had problems only towards the end, when I had to lower all details... But, the frustration is not significant when playing a game like Gothic.
As for darkness, adjusting gamma level should give the best results. |

Maybe itīs time to get a new PC. G2 eats 1 GHz systems for breakfast.
If you have Win98 go for 512 MB. More is unhealthy. On 2000 or XP you can go for 1 GB. 512 MB should be okay, though. The loading problem should be gone.
The gamma problem is normal. 20 minutes after I started the game I found a shadowbeast inside a really dark forest at night. Although I was carrying a torch it took me 3 tries to find out what killed me. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Well, I have a 2.6 GHz system, 1G (fast) RAM, a 128 MB good (not great) Radeon video card and the game runs just fine, if not very long. I got the game for Christmas from my sons and am not very far in (just got into Korinnis via the farmer route) but the game has already frozen a dozen times or more. I thought MW was unstable but so far Gothic II (ver 1.32) makes it look like the Rock of Gibraltar. Is this normal? I don't see any threads on this but of course have come relatively late to the forum and have not delved into early threads. And yes, the guy with the 1 GHz computer seriously needs to upgrade. _________________ Virtual Adventurer Ranger |

The instabilities are not normal. There must be a reason for them. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

I haven't noticed and instability or crashing, but sometimes when I am walking the screen starts to jerk.
I cranked up my video settings to increase brightness. _________________ "You two are a regular ol' Three Musketeers." |

I have noticed a simple thing while walking, the angle of veiw, makes the game jerky. If I am "looking" at the ground a little too much, it is very shakey, and if I just "look" up a little in a more straight view towards the horizon, it stops and all is smooth. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=
