Finished the demo - my opinion... (spoilers)

I finished the demo today... this is what I thought about it.

I liked the intro, it was cool, same thing with the menu. It was nice and clean. But the loading times was a little long.

When the game started, i thought the "view" was a little strange. And the controls was pretty hard. But i got used to that in some minutes of playing. The graphics was nice! I like that "2d" look for RPG games.

I continued to play, i got a weapon and a armor. So i left town meeting the knight. Thats where i found everything too hard! The orcs was darn good. But after luring them away to the knight and killing some of them myself i leveled up. So i thought finaly, now i can get some killing done! So i followed the road down, then i met this dragon rider, and the wizard, now thing was getting interesting. I left the wizard thinking this game was beginning to get fun, then... the demo ended! I just said "allready!" After like less than one hour of gameplay!

Anyway, i liked this game after all...

Did you visited catacombs? It should be large part of demo.

You should really READ what people say. After Lanilor is frozen and you rescue him he tells you about the catacombs. There are 5 levels there and you should be able to reach level 6 or so.

Nope, where is the catacombs located?

Since i could not get anywhere with the orcs, i thought i should kill them first, and that led me to the end of the demo.

There are four dragon statues near the center of the village. They surround a larger statue of a man. Move the statues so they all face north.

How can anyone miss the catacombs? Sheesh... they're only like 7 hours of the demo...

The leader of the village is nuts and freezes his elven friend. Once you thaw him out he goes on about how the leader hasn't been the same since he went into the catacombs alone several years ago and tells you where the entrance is and how to open it (turn all the dragon statues to face north).

Much carnage ensues.

The guys who made Divinity certainly have a sense of humor. Read your poor heros description of his attributes in his diary.

Yes, those were hilarious! And many of the little books and papers you find are also quite amusing.

I wish hit points and mana increased when you advanced levels... even just something like 5 hit points and 1 mana. It gets quite painful to have 60 hit points because you want to have a high strength or dexterity so you can kill things or hit things....

I tried to play an archer. Er... don't. At least, not in a tight space like the catacombs level 2 and beyond... where endless waves of skeletons close on your position the instant you run (and make a sound). On the upper levels its fun to take a shot... run back... take a shot... run back. Look ma, no damage.

As it is now the following applies:
Strength increases damage and max weight
Agility increases offense and defense values
intelligence increases mana
constitution increases HP and stamina

demo

Love the demo, but my favourite part was the two skeletons discussing why they shouldn't be able to talk move or breathe, so they then drop dead!! Hilarious cut scene. This is a MUST buy game.

Another funny one is if you talk to the skeleton that pulls the lever, she'll hit on your character.

I think every 5th level I'll put 5 points into constituition for the hit points and stamina. Just makes sense for all characters, I think.

Well, for my little fighter I put 3 in strength, 1 in agility, and 1 in constitution at each level. Mostly because all the good weapons require mostly strength and some agility. Then, of course, putting points in constitution to raise my hit points.

Taking the gradual approach probably isn't a bad idea... beats going 5 levels at 60 hp and then jumping to 90 likely.

I made a demo-only character (one who likely wouldn't survive the main game) where I just tanked out con for the stamina and staying power and spun like the cartoon tasmanian devil like nothing else. Skeleton bits flying everywhere. Good old knife... carried about 5 of 'em and broke them like they were made of glass.

Hmm. Perhaps I need to reasses. I liked the graphics, and I enjoyed the gameply, but I felt a little lost. I like getting experience without fighting, though. The puzzle solving was fun, and not all that tricky.
