I think that my choose would be the ability to live in a world that lives their own lives that sometimes depend on you.

I think Gothic is in a whole a unique game. Gothic 1 was the first game, where i could move everywhere, do whatever i want, and it has a living world, as Mercenary mentioned. Before it i had never played a game so detailed like this:)

The realness of the world.

I exspecialy liked the realness of the people, people don't just walk arround but do something useful to them (smokking, repairing, cooking etc.). They have their own mood and react different to you, they have their own problems, there are fights between them etc.

You see this kind of realness in very few other RPG's

Almost everything in Gothic has been done before in one game or another.

But what makes Gothic unique is how it brings all of these elements together and combines them to create a cohesive world that is both interesting and beleivable.

i'm between 2:
the ability to choose a guild to join
and
the ability to sleap, eat, and drink (along with smoking-i've personally never seen that in a game before)

well the livelyness of the world the freedom to go everywhere you want and the quite unique fighting systemand the captivating storyline,I played balders gate for 5 min and got bored by the non interesting story, Gothic is the complete opppossite: interesting and captvating story with a lot of twists in it

I loved the atmosphere the most. The forests of Khorinis seemed so real to me and I can explain how enjoable was to me just to stroll trough the land, it was just like in real life (I live on countryside and my surroundings are very similar to Khorinis ).

Also, the medieval feeling was perfect. The city of Khorinis is really made good I've never seen such a good constructed city in a rpg before.

Plus, the game was great and it's really getting better and better as the story progresses, but I will never forget the first few hours. Those were the best.

(just a notice: I played G2 before G1)

I agree, your first steps in the beginning, scared for every little creature you see and sound you hear. especially in G1, I was scared to go anywhere new the firs time I played gothic 1

You forgot the most important thing: the immersive world. The world consists of many puzzle pieces, of course.
