To quote myself:
Minimum requirements for a fluid game are an 800 MHz CPU, 256 MB of RAM and a GeForce2. RAM is the governing constituent - if you want better performance, a RAM upgrade might be in order.
That's what Mike Hoge said when he presented the game.
Max settings should be possible with a 1000 MHz processor, 512 MB RAM and a 64 MB video card. Not sure about the last thing though. _________________ Jaz |

Wonder why the game need so much RAM for maximum setting (512MB!). If i have more memory on my video card (e.g - 128MB), do it mean i need less for RAM? (256 or even 128MB?). Also, it seem the game less dependent on processor. _________________

Because lots of world details are stored in memory. Or do you want to wait everytime you enter a house because the game has to load, like in other games?
This is not even an increase in requirements. Even Gothic needed 256 MB to run fluendly and was faster with 512MB. No matter if low or max settings.

Definitely no.

Gothic II uses the same engine as Gothic. Gothic needed a balanced system reg. CPU, RAM and graphics card.
Again, the system recommendation of 1 GHz, 512 MB and a GeForce 2 (non MX!) to enjoy the game isnīt even an increase from Gothic I. Todayīs budget systems have 2GHz, at least 256 MB and at least a GeForce4MX (which sucks but is fast enough).
Even the recommendation is far below an entry level system! Memory and CPUs are dirt cheap nowadays, I simply donīt understand how one can have less than 512 MB. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Hmm, now i remember, about the world details/infos stored on RAM. That mean (in the case of Gothic 2) if the computer doesn't have enough RAM, then the game become slower because the use of virtual memory on hard disk, right? Before this i just curious why Gothic need a lot of RAM, since some game's performance benchmarks either more dependent on the video card, or the the processor. I think Gothic is quite a special case when it first came out last year - when a lot of games still don't need 256 RAM. But then again, it also the only game (i think) that don't need loading when enter different sections of it game world. _________________

Not to worry, it happens to us all. I was just about to write "And what about Gothic?", when I realized it was the one that started it. Time to sleep mayhaps... _________________ CaptainWorshipperNonFlamer

I `ll tell you that I had a lot of problems with Gothic. Well maybe not so musch but... It was obviously hard for my machine. I have Thbd900 with 128 Mb SdRam and GeForce2MX 32. And I had problems when I turn around and so on... I know that I`ll have to buy a new computer to play Gothic II.
And one question: I haven`t heared why Gothic II will have the same engine as the first GothiC? |
