Shadowrun sighted on PC?

Firingsquad is optimistic that the expected 'Shadowrun' game will be available for PC:
We have arrived in Los Angeles and just finished making a quickie tour of the downtown convention center as preparations are still underway for getting it ready for the exhibit halls to open for E3 this Wednesday. Just inside the lobby of the South Hall were signs attached to support beams for several games that will be on display at Microsoft's Games for Windows exhibit and one of them was none other than for Shadowrun, the long rumored adaptation of the cyberpunk pen-and-paper RPG. Since it's attached to the Games For Windows exhibit we have to assume it's coming for the PC (some rumors of a Shadowrun game had it as an Xbox 360 only title). We will be posting up some pictures we took outside and inside the LA Convention Center shortly.
Still no word on the actual gameplay expectations.

Microsoft has been saying for the past few months now that they want to rejuvinate PC gaming. This is a chance for Microsoft to prove that they are serious about this. They have this license that they can use. Will they make a multi-platform "Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel" out of it? A multi-platform FPS with a few RPG elements thrown in? Or, will they make a great PC-centric role playing game and separate console games? I wish that Microsoft would do what EA does with the Medal of Honor series -- i.e. make completely separate games for consoles and PC.

You can keep dreaming, buddy. When was the last time a multi-platform game satisfy pc gamers? What? That's right, there isn't. This game will be exactly like craptastic bullshit like Fable or Oblivion. Basically console games with pc ported afterthought. You just can't satisfy 15-old console crowd and older pc gamers at the same time when it comes to rpg games.

Well, the game is coming to the PC, but it's not an RPG. :-/

"“Shadowrun™” (Microsoft Game Studios) brings the Microsoft vision of “Live Anywhere” to life. “Shadowrun” from FASA Studio is the first cross-platform game for Xbox 360™ and Windows Vista. It is a multiplayer, FPS that propels team-based combat into a new dimension with a revolutionary blend of modern weaponry and ancient magic. “Shadowrun” will be available when Windows Vista is launched."

Starwars: Knights of the Old Republic
Like the game or not, folks that played it on PC and platforms both liked it.

For the most part you can't, but sometimes it happens.

Gah

From FanPro's (the US publisher that snagged Shadowrun after FASA went poof) SR website: "Fair warning, however: Microsoft rewrote the timeline and setting for this game, so it is not in continuity with the tabletop RPG. It may be more accurately described as a game loosely based on Shadowrun."

So not only did they take a game

I suppose we can hope that this was a one-time license and that MS doesn't own the general right to -all- Shadowrun games present and future, but it's still disheartening. Anyone know if MS picked up the game rights from FanPro/Wiz Kids, or from FASA back when it was selling off IP?

actually iirc they DO own the rights to all the FASA games.. and software.

so even a character creator for Shadowrun is actually an infringement on M$ rights

Fanpro is actually German with only a branch office in the US. Regarding the Shadowrun franchise, there's some very enlightening information in this article . In fact, there's a link to another article at this location where you can find one of the longest answers that has ever been given to an interview question as Jon Kimmich, a former Microsoft Game Studios employee explains in detail who was and is involved with the SR licence and in what way. Seems to be a rather complex topic...
