I'm a bit curious, if you import your char from 1 to 2, can you pick a kit? Or do you have to cheat to do that? |

You get to pick a kit if you're single classed, and re-assign your weapon skills (since they're different in BG2). I think you may also get to reassing your thieving skills, but I can't recall... I didn't actually import my character. I just made a new one with the same name in BG2. Easier that way.

Well, thanks for the info, EverythingXen. I think I might go and scrounge for BG1 in a bargain bin, then. I've read on some forums that you can get some pretty unique stuff by going through the whole series. |

Since, without cheating, you lose all your equipment from BG1 when going to 2... I don't see how you get some pretty unique stuff. By the middle of BG2 you've lost EVERYTHING from BG1 (except a few NPCs). Oh, and your manual augmented stats (if you restart BG1 enough times you can get 25 in all stats. Should only take you a few weeks. *rolls eyes* If people want THAT I'd suggest a cheat utility... but I digress. ).
BG1 was... dull. Going from level 1 to 2 was damned near lethal and a long process. There's a LOT of open space that you have to explore to get to the good bits. The dialogue and story are good, though.

Are you talking about starting out itemless in Irenicus' dungeon? Because the items you had in BG1, you can find around the dungeon. And it's not a random collection of stuff you COULD get in BG1, it actually is based on what you collected. Or so my pimple-ridden BG1 playing friends tell me. |

Besides, I like open space, interaction with scenery, etc. I usually don't go for the storyline until I've grown bored of everything else |

Then you'll probably like the random people you run into in wilderness areas. Like that old man south of Baragost (I think that's where he is). Now there's some choice dialog.

Hmm. Now I feel compelled to play BG1 just to find that old man, so I can judge whether you're joking or not. |

Oh, believe me I'm not joking. I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when I read the dialog options!
And I just checked, he's in the area north of Nashkel. His name is Portalbenderwinden.
