Replaying as Fire Magician, NPCs missing from VoM in Ch. 2

I completed Gothic 2 as a paladin a couple of weeks ago, and decided to replay the game as a fire magician. I actually started from an old saved game, already being an apprentice to Bosper. Well, I played all the way through Chapter 1 with no problems, became a mage and got the pass key from Lord Hagen to go to the Valley of Mines. This is where the trouble starts.

When I enter the "old world", Biff is waiting along the path in dragon hunter armor already (shouldn't be in Ch. 2), and there are no orcs or other monsters that belong in this chapter, only some fire lizards that appeared in a later chapter when I played as a paladin. Most of the castle NPCs are present, and act as if we've never met (ie. give me quests properly), but Milten, Gorn, Diego and others are gone. All the dragons are already dead, and there are dead mercenary dragon hunters all over the place.

It looks like the game is combining parts of my previous completed game with Chapter 2 of my current game. Is there any way to correct this, so that I can play through Chapter 2-6 normally? FYI, there were no problems in Chapter 1, or at the start of Chapter 2 while still in the "new world".

Hey there Inazone,

Welcome to the friendly forums,

It may well be that the storyline triggers have corrupted, however if you are prepared to use marvin mode, you could save the pc-hereo that you wish to
continue with by typing in the command box, HERO EXPORT this will save your character intact with stats & equipment etc' to your G2/saves folder.

Next, it may be worth trying, - - Start a new game & save one new game,
then in marvin, type SH this is the story helper which can adjust the missions
done, also you may type SH_OLDWORLD (this is the bit you want) then at some suitable point (if all seems o.k) you would do a HERO IMPORT to re-
insert your original character.

Failing this you would have to re-start the game, even at this point you could,
in conjunction with the above-mentioned, be prepared to start a particular level
by typing, again in marvin, PC_L3 or L9 or L19 or L25 or L31 as you like and
then "hero import"

Good luck

Thanks for the reply, Wulf. I just got home and haven't tried this yet, but I might as well ask another question (without turning it into a spoiler post): are the quests for Chapter 2 and later essentially identical regardless of which class/guild direction I go? Replaying Chapter 1 as a magician was fun, but I get the impression from reading the forums that the later chapters are all pretty much the same.

O.k Inazone,

If you mean "identical" as like for like, then no, there are some different
routines (and with some differring possibilities)!

P.S dont forget to try to "mix & match" the previous suggestions, you might not hit on it first time.

Well, some bad news. Either I'm a moron, or Marvin doesn't like me. I did the hero export fine, but it's not recognizing SH (or SH_OLDWORLD) as a valid command.

Any ideas?

O.k Inazone,

I'm sorry, i take it for granted people understand, in the marvin menu box
press key i you should see the word insert, then the sh_oldworld, if your levels
have been corrupted you could verify by "inserting" pc_levelinspector, his stats should be the same, i am also assuming you are using the last "good" save
BEFORE you enter the old world.

He has probably the usual problem with the German keyboard layout.
