| Gothic II will not load up after initial install. |

Ok, here is my problem.This is the third time this has happened. I have installed the game for the third time, everytime I install it, the first time I try to play it immediatly after the install the game runs and loads perfectly. But, after closing the game and coming back later on to play again, the game will not load. Autorun pops up and I hit "Play Gothic 2" but nothing happens. The screen goes blank and no matter how many times I try it the game will not load after the initial install. Some help would be appreciated cause I really like this game even though I am only able to play just a few hours of this game. |

Welcome to the forum! 
We had this problem before, maybe you should use the search function.
My guess is that the copy protection check fails after the first start because the exe file has been modified by a virus a by a checksum addition of your virus scanner.
Another option is that an important file or the whole directory was set to read-only.

Thanks, good to be here.
Sorry, new to this and every other forum, never posted before. I looked in some other threads, and I didn't see the answer to my question, but I will look again just to be sure I didn't miss it the first time through.

Youīre welcome.
Use the search function if you donīt find the older thread within a few minutes.
Something must change between the first and the 2nd start. This is typical virus or spyware behaviour. Install a virus scanner, AdAware and SpyBot. All with the latest definition files.

I have used th e seach and can find nothing with regards to this issue. 
Also, when I try to run G2, I check the task manager and it says the autorun is not responding.
Sorry, not trying to bother anyone. If there is another thread that has this in it,plaese direct me as I could not find it in my search. |

You donīt bother anyone. Sometimes threads are hard to find when itīs not clear with what to feed the search function.
Do the things I mentioned in my last post. Then reboot your PC and try again. There must be a reason why it only works once. The fact that it works after a fresh install means that everything is fine until something interferes.

It lives!!!!!
I got the virus scanner and it found 9!!!!!! viruses. After I got rid of them the game works just fine now.
Thanks for the suggestion. I had know idea that could be the problem.
Well, I'm off to killing young wolves and such. Thank you. |
