Gothic 3 - officially confirmed information only (04/04/05)

After looking over what he's posted, I believe the only official information he's posted has come from Gothic3.net and a couple brief previews from a couple places around the web. The bulk of it is merely speculation or suggestion on the part of fans. It's still somewhat interesting to read, and think of how Gothic 3 *could* turn out.

For the sake of people who'd rather not read that mess, I've retranslated the official information he's posted:

Gothic 3
14.05.2004, 22:58
First Information Regarding the Game's Story

-------------------
At the end of Gothic 2, our nameless hero set sail with his cohorts accross a large sea. Soon, he will land in Gothic 3. The sequel covers the entire mainland of Gothic's fantasy world and is about four to five times larger than the landmass we explored in Gothic 2. Besides the now familiar hill and forest landscapes, the sequel also aims to give us deserts. This region was shown to us by Jowood at E3 as an early tech demo. Wind-swept dunes, serene oases, and a *lot* of sand await our hero if this demo is of any indication. The eastern-styled city particularly pleased us with detailed textures and impressive architecture. Whether the player may ride through his journeys in the desert on horses or camels has not been decided by the developers yet. It is likely that the hero's store of water will play an important role.

As for the specifics of Gothic 3, Pirhana Bytes keeps itself quiet. We were only able to get a few choice pieces of information out of them: The hero will lose some of his abilities and inventory, due to misuse on his long ship journey to the mainland. Gothic veterans will not to have to begin, however, as a complete newbie like in Gothic 2. And, as is to be expected of the series, a number of important guilds and parliamentary groups the player may join will play a significant role in the game.

The rest is interpretation on our part: After the Orc Wars, the human kingdom has been severely weakened. In the large cities of the country, local princes and other important figures scheme against each other, some in violent warfare, to gain power. It is in this anarchistic situation you must survive and probably either aid in saving the king or help another parliamentary group in capturing the throne. Expect many new animations and moves -- the combat system has been completely revamped. This will allow for the opportunity to attack in completely different ways, such as bounding off of rocks and rapelling oneself from there. Furthermore, the AI is to be improved in Gothic 3, so that opponents are more aware and will respond to ranged attacks. Oh, and expect a brand new, mouse supported interface.

Gothic 3 is to appear in the fourth quarter of 2005. (Note: Expect the english version in 2006)

From Gothic3.net
-------------------
- Kai Rosenkranz will cooperate with a yet unnamed Bulgarian composer for the soundtrack of Gothic 3. Whether an actual orchestra will be used for the soundtrack has not yet been determined. This was stated by KaiRo himself in this forum.

- Importing your hero from Gothic 2 into Gothic 3 will not be possible. See this post.

- Background, setting, and initial conditions have been established from the prior games, but the complete plot of the sequel has not been fully compiled yet. A horribly mangled, machine-translated saying of the developer goes, "a good history must grow and that becomes it." As seen here.

- The NPC Schedules (Daily routines, etc.) have been simplified to allow for a larger amount/vatiety of NPC characters to be inserted in the game. The method of inserting NPCs as seen in the earlier games proved too time consuming to use on the scale they want for the third game. As noted here.

- The combat system has been completely revised. In Gothic 3 it will no longer be necessary to click in the correct time in order to execute a combo. The combo is rather the standard attack, that occurs when when clicks and holds that attack button. This allows for individual special moves that occur when one clicks again at the correct time during the new standard attack. It may also be a possibility to fight in the classic Gothic 1/2 style, if one chooses. Note that this method is only a prototype, and the combat system is still under heavy testing and may change. See this forum for details.

- In the latest issue of Gamestar states that the upcoming game "Die Gilde 2" uses the Gamebryo engine. What does Gothic 3 have to do with this? JoWood has stated that "Die Gilde 2" will use the same engine as Gothic 3. The Gamebryo engine is behind such games as: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Sid Meier's Pirates!, and Freedom Force. Note that the Gamebryo engine is very flexible, so don't expect Gothic 3 to play like any of the aforementioned games, particularly as Pirhana Bytes has added a lot of their own code to the mix. They have also licenced the EMotion FX character animation system.

I think so, it's still very "rough" model, we can only hope that it's in-game model. On the other side, why would they render exactly scavenger, why not dragon or some more important creature.

It seems that Gothic 3 is becoming very good. Just saw the animation of the scavenger (check the news section). It's just frightening to see how real it is. I only fear that I'm going to need a new pc.

Another Art-Work made by PB, it seems to be a Heavy Nordmann Warrior, linked with this page, at the bottom of it:

The armor looks great, but it's way different from the previous Nordmarr artwork they gave us, so we still haven't got a clue what kind of armor they will be wearing. I like the snowy style of the last one with the skin of a white wolf, but I prefer the amount of skulls and trophees that the first armor had.

Maybe I should get a new avatar...

JoWooD put an end to their co-publishing deal with Fluent Entertainment a few days ago. It´s not clear what effect this has on the North American (re)releases of G2, TNotR and G3. It´s possible the infos about a swift English release are outdated.
