Insert Rockefeller, possess him, have him drop his staff, go back to your own body, take the staff, then kill Rockefeller off and resists the urge to take his equipment.

Yes, the game does drag on a bit at that point. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you may be able to kill any of the golems with any weapons as long as you get a critical.

Another good reason to join the old camp is that you get to learn crossbows earlier. But other than that, and what everyone else has mentioned, there's not really anything special about it.

Nah, you don't really need the shrinking scroll later on. In fact, I never use it.

Just beat him down for it! It may take a while, but it's worth it. His sword is the best one-handed weapon in the game, and his crossbow is the best erm...crossbow in the game.

Yes, but you have to wait until later in the game. I think it's the sixth chapter, but I could be mistaken.
