OK if anyone is interested I found the answer.
The only way that you can cut and paste in the script editor is by using the keyboard comands.
CTRL C to copy and CTRL V to paste.
That's it.

This would be a hell of a lot easier if I didn't have to keep typing this stuff over and over everytime I start a new try at creating a script.

It must be because I went out exploring at the start of the game and got my character up to level 20 that they didn't make me blind.
By the time I found them I was probably level 23.

I have been able to see fine ever since I got the Boots of Blinding Speed.
The screen gets slightly darker but that's all. I have used them with a number of different kinds of armor too.

Since the patch is essentially the Morrowind.exe file I guess that means we are running the CD anti copy software again, right.
I tried starting the game from the No CD file just to see what happen ... |

Patch didn't seem to work so I just did that part over without picking up the sword.
