I won't go into a huge essay on DAoC, but if you are against "grouping" you probably will not enjoy the game.
It is possible to "solo" rather weel up until level 40, but all content after level 40 ... |

I turned my sound off in beta and have never heard the in-game music post-release. I could be missing something, but I doubt it.
