In a rather interesting development, Warcry's Shannon 'Vandemar" Drake also carried the announcement re Vivendi's shutting down the King's Quest IX: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining fan project...
As if the Tribes: Vengeance debacle didn't do enough for their reputation, Vivendi sicced the lawyers on the crew over at King's Quest IX for daring to touch the intellectual property Vivendi is sitting on and probably doing nothing with. While I hold a strong skepticism towards fan-based projects (as they tend to be more enthusiasm than results), the guys working on King's Quest IX were doing some good work that might've revived a dead series. While VU is re-releasing the original games (according to the site), it's still a shame to see a good-looking fan project get shot down so a developer can continue sitting on a property like a giant chicken. Maybe I'm just bitter about Wing Commander sitting in a vault somewhere.
(Editor's Note) It is more than likely, Shannon, that the KQIX Development Team was probably performing a better production effort for a project that was to be distributed to fans online for free than any mediocre production effort that seems to be so typical of Vivendi Universal with their franchises:-) |
